You're last post was very interesting, I am glad that you went to the er to relieve your minds worry and that you are doing so well and impressed on the care you are receiving.

You just need time.

Most of all I hope that you are thinking of things to explore. Making plans etc.

Thanks for the update. I figured you were feeling like something was wrong since we didn't hear from you for a while. It's good to get checked and rechecked by someone else. Some people can see what others can't. Hope you are continuing to entertain yourself with good music and happy thoughts. This is good therapy and an important part of the healing process. Hugs, Ariel

Glad to hear of your progress. Listening to music is an excellent way to get back to health. Listening to your body is also the best thing you can do. Nobody knows your body like you. Doctors are practitioners which means they are always practicing - and sometimes they make mistakes - especially if they don't listen to what their patients are telling them about their body and it's reactions to medications. Hahahahah, Kenny, you are as bad as I am about stopping drugs as you describe in your "report." I guess we Currys are just plain incorrigible, but sometimes, yeah, we have to do those nasty drugs for a short time... .

Neat on your 1000 1950s era pop music mp3s. Woo hoo!

Onwards! Keep making the fantastic healing progress you have been.

Good to hear every day seems to be an improvement. Can understand your dilemma about the drug dosage, perhaps 2 October result should make a big difference. Glad to haven't lost your sense of humour. Keep on keeping on. K3

I'm so happy you're doing so well, BB! I'll sure be glad when you're free of that drug. Doctors joking like that give me the creeping willies!

Dear Ken,

I've been out of touch and have taken a look at your website and guestbook here just now.

Kudos to you for keeping track of your situation and for keeping others very up to date. The detail and perspective offered in your journal writings seem to show that you're very much still yourself. I'm quite happy for that!

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Very best,

Jeff

Hi Ken,

Wow. 2 - 5 km a day. That is pretty good. I don't know about you but I'm doing a lot more walking after my surgery than before. I'm gonna keep this up for sure.

I hope the A-Fib resolves itself. Sounds like you are on top of it with your cardiologist. Do you have the ability to also e-mail him? My health system allows me to e-mail my cardiologist without having to always make an appointment. She answers right away. I don't have A-Fib, but I do have a very high heart rate (92 to 96 beats per minute).

Keep up the good work!!!

Regards,

Lee Castro

Glad to hear you got a good report from the doc! It seems you are doing all the right things then? Just need a little more patience to regain the stamina. Sounds like you are doing well with the walking. Are you mapping out different routes so you don't get bored? Or take along a little picnic and book on a nice day.

Take care. sending gentle hugs your way!

You've got a great heart doc. He really cares. What an excellent report for where you are in your recovery. The A-Fib will continue to decrease in frequency and intensity and your lungs continue to dry out as long as you keep on the regimen and BELIEVE this is so. Laugh a lot and sing, too, in addition to all of the other. A well-oiled sense of humor is additional needed and important healing medicine. Let's all sing... "An Old Cowboy went riding to the surgical ward one day, This tough old coot survived in style with a pig valve in his heart, hooray! And now he's recovering way ahead of the curve, but he thinks he's really slow. Sheesh! what a lot of nerve. Yipee i oh, yippee i ay, Cowboy walking the streets, yay hey!" (To the tune of "Ghost Riders in the Sky")

I really like the Ode to a Scar poem from your No. 1 fan - my favorite so far. Glad to hear you got a good report from the doctor and you're able to get around much better now. What kind of frozen meals did Isabelle make? Sounds yummy! Ariel

My best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.

Hi Ken! Just catching up with your progress... sounds great! Excellent blood work readings, maybe you will be able to stop taking those pills soon?

Walking is the best and being able to judge how far you have come and what the inclines are so you can adjust your challenges is a good plan.

I hope Izzy's meals are keeping you going! Are you supplementing with chicken, fish or eggs? Need some good protein to keep you mending well.

Let me know when you are up to a lunch meeting. I noticed there is a fresh sushi place just a couple blocks away (I think on Montclair or maybe the next street, at Spadina?) on the east side. Do you need some assistance with any cleaning too? I'm available if you need.... just call.

Stephen started grade 11 today. First semester he has: Communications Technology, Gr.12 Statistics, chemistry, and Media Arts (animation, video, etc.).

My Mom made it up to see our new cottage last Friday. she came up with family friends so she didn't have to drive. First time she's been there. We had a good visit over lunch and gave a tour, talked for a bit and then they headed back home.

Take care, keep us posted on your progress and keep up the good recovery!!

Hi Ken,

Yup. The last several days I've walked way too much one day then have to take a rest day. Too wiped out!!! So I can relate to you thats for sure. So now, I'm trying to break my walk into 2 smaller walks for the day. We'll see how it goes. Good luck to you. Slow and steady progress is progress nonetheless.

Glad you are doing good. We have been really busy. We had a lot of wind and rain from Issac. We thought it was going to be awful. But, it keep moving away from us. But, we still had high winds and lots and lots of rain. The bands of rain reaches a long ways form the storm. It was about 150 miles from us. But, you can't image how much rain we still get from the storm. The BANDS of rains are really something. We put eveything in on the pool area and closed all of our shuretters. So,we didn't lose any-thing. A lot of work putting everything in.
We really have nice shutters. They are new. We had a lot of high water and lot of flooding. The flooding wasn't real close to us. We are 17 feet above sea level. Our canal came up some but, didn't hurt us. So, we were very lucky and very thankful. God really watched over us. Can't thank him enough. We are all well and doing good.
Glad you are doing good...I think of you every day. It takes a while to heal Ken. Take it slow....

Love you Cuz.,
Ray

Good Morning! Your recuperation update
today is a winner. But there is no "race",
just the satisfaction that each day you can
feel the progress. The loving advice from
all your friends is on the mark: Enjoy these
slower days, luxuriate in what might not
have been ovious when you were going
"full speed". Sleeping better each night is
a gift, waking with less anxiety and no
sternum damage. You remain in our
thoughts and prayers.
And to dj, your limerick was great. I enjoy
yours and Lee's comments. . .always.
A rewarding journey Ken allowed us all
to have.

Make the best of your lazy life - it doesn't happen all that often! Glad to know you are recovering albeit slowly. Hope they can adjust your medication to suit as that is most important. We have had a few very hot spring days - which confued all the plants and flowers (as it did myself - I thought at last spring has sprung) and now it is back to overcast grey skies once again. Looking forward to having Renee stay with me when I have my op, 21 September. Continue to be good. K3

Enjoy your recovery as it is a long gradual improvement in how you feel and your endurance levels.

I look back at my recovery now and realize that I should have relaxed more and enjoy it more.

Good news, Kenny, that the A-Fib seems to be lessening. How great of Izzy to clean house and cook up all those meals before leaving.
Walking slowly, resting frequently allows you to see the world around you. See? Walking slowly is a good thing. Accentuating the positive here. Now let's all sing: "Baby Steps, you take the cutest little Baby Steps...."
Wow! Your No.1Fan sure wrote a fabulous "Ode to a Scar." Wow, she's GOOD. I also love Marilyn's Socrates, Sartre, and Sinatra quotes in a row. Wonderful!
OK, I'd better make some baby steps of my own.

Kenny, thinking of you this beautiful day and sending you my thoughts:

ODE TO A SCAR
Upon my chest there lies anew,
A symbol, sign, and in plain view.

And as I rise to raise the bar,
I touch, and marvel at my scar:

It is my badge, this scar supurb,
It's there to warn, "Do not disturb".

It will not leave nor fade away,
A promise of a bright new day.

I smile and know, without a doubt,
My scar gives status, even clout.

What lies beneath it's 8-inch span,
A healthy heart of a brand new man!
