So John...are we going to be seeing you on Dancing With the Stars? From the sound of your journal and your pics, you might be the professional! Glad to hear you are able to dance so soon, don't get frustrated that you are a little "behind", think about what your body has been through. I think it's awesome that you can even walk, much less ballroom dance, I can't do it, but I love to watch on TV and I can see that it takes a lot of physical strength and stamina.

I am totally impressed!

Hi John, just what I know you need is advice from someone who hasn't been there yet....patience!!! I think I've read from many people on the HVJ site that its like 2 steps forward, 1 back? I'm glad you listened to your body and did what it told you to do. You've come too far to overdo. I kind of look at it like this: You spent a lot of energy, fatigue, etc. climbing UP that mountain, now on your way back down the other side....if you have to sit down and slide on your butt part of the way...hey...better than falling down and rolling down the mountain to crash at the bottom!

You are amazing and such an inspiration. Keep well so that when my date finally gets here (March 13th) you can give me some REAL advice from someone who knows!

Take care...still waiting....Linda Dixon

Hi John,
I thought you were going to give up posting messages. I love the comment by the mechanic. My mechanic has the same critism of dentists. He said all my cars are different but they just have a similar set of teeth and charge a fortune just to open the hood!
I have really got into go slow mode. I still exercise but I can easily waste the hours. I decided to take long service leave and have a long break. I am very glad I made that decision. Apart from having energy until it suddenly evaporates I know it will be hard to exercise when I go back to work.

John - thanks for the note in my journal. I'm glad you're doing well after your surgery. You made a very good point to me about everybody's surgery and recovery being unique and not to get so caught up in reading these entries that you start comparing or setting expectations based on others experience. Perhaps not consciously, I think I was starting to fall into that situation. I enjoyed reading your guestbook and hope I can share some positive experiences about my surgery and recovery as you have done. Continued best wishes for you and please stay in touch.

Hi John,

I have questions for you regarding ballroom dancing and this is not related to heart surgery, if that is OK with you.I noticed you are dancer so here it is:

I used to do ballroom dancing back home in Croatia very long time ago, about 20+ years ago...For quite some time I have been considering to join ballroom dance club here in town, but I am not sure how to go about it. My hubby has no interest to do it with me and I would like to get into it seriously in time.

Do you have any advice what to look for in club, instructors etc.? How I would start dancing, perhaps even competing sometime down the line... We have Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray dance clubs.

Thanks a lot in advance,

You sound as though you are really on the road to recovery. The fitness bit is quite tricky I have found. There are no warning signs at the time of exercise just the next day when the energy levels drop considerably. I thought I was doing so well yesterday - until this morning. However the one thing the journal has done is to give us a marker as to how far we have come. I did notice you mentioned not drinking much. I haven't been game to drink anything. I don't even want to - even my diet coke addition has got the flick. I don't need anything to give me energy anymore. (-:

John Lund was a native Knoxvillian who played at UT after old Knoxville High. He died young and left a namesake little kid and I don't know what happened to that family.
