Congrats on your procedure. We are all excited that it went so well.
I just hope the surgeon didn't leave any New York Yankee memorabilia in there!
Now you can go back to running and have enough breath to go for the records.
Best to you and Lise!

As you are recovering this evening, I have you in my thoughts. I had this same surgery on January 23, 2008 at UCLA, with Dr. Richard Shemin using the DaVinci Robot. I had a stubborn mitral valve with thick leaflets, but he was able to repair it and I began a relatively unremarkable recovery. I did get atrial fib on the second day out, but only because they FORGOT to give me my beta blocker meds. As soon as they added them back, I was back in rhythm. I was home from the hospital on the 5th day, and ever so grateful for this surgery that stopped the progression of damage that mitral valve regurgitation can cause. I know you will do great, and be up and walking by tonight or tomorrow. Best of luck and good health to you!

I am 56. I had asymptomatic severe mitral regurg repaired 4 months ago in Methodist Hospital Houston, thru sternotomy. Took 3 months to feel close to normal again.Started cycling again at 12 weeks post op.I lost 15 lbs, felt like crap for the first 6 weeks. I did not wear underwear or care if people saw my butt in the hospital. You will feel better, just remember it's a process. Walk as soon as you can. Exercise helps a lot, Good luck.

I am thrilled that your surgery went flawlessly and so glad i could be with you both through it all. Your doctors were wonderful and so positive about your results. You seem to be in terrific hands and, although you will have a journey, it will be progressive and you'll feel better than even in no time. Our prayers are with you both always. You know we are a shout away if either of you need anything at all. By the way, THANK YOU SO MUCH for giving Lise to me!
God bless and speedy recovery.

Hi Lise, I can sympathize with you. I have been in your shoes with my Dad and my daughter in heart surgeries. It is not fun to be on that end, but prayers will help. No that God is with Jim right now and will be. I think in my case it was God getting me ready for my surgery of 13 months ago. Pretty soon he will be out and be on the other side of this big mountain that he has been climbing like the rest of us. Then he will be off running like crazy and winning. Take care my prayers are with you and Jim.

Hello Lise, nice to have you posting. We are with you guys and hoping sling with you for the easiest journey and the best outcome. Don't let him go too fast in his recovery. Sometimes fast means backwards and slow. That was the hardest part and Tammy, my wife had to continually reign me in.
Keep us updated on his progress. Also, to show you haw doable this is if it goes well. I have been working since a little over five and half weeks and at nine and a half weeks, I am posting this from a business trip in Cali Colombia and will be in three countries down here over the next two weeks.

With you both in spirit and prayer. Jim will have the easy part for the next couple of weeks; Lise don't forget to take care of yourself because there will be plenty of people taking care of him. Can't wait to hear all about the good result.
Good luck today and tonight. Tomorrow everything will be in the hands of the surgeons and anesthesiologists - and you've picked them carefully and well. But, before then, the biggest contribution you can make is to find the inner peace that lets you go into the surgery with a positive and light mental attitude.
For me, certainly, two things made all the difference in my recovery from my surgery 7-1/2 months ago: Like you, I was in pretty good physical condition when I went in the doors, but also, I somehow overcame (or put out of my mind) my really awful fears. (Also, I told the anesthesiologist that I didn't want to see or hear anything until after they were finished, and he graciously filled me full of stuff that thankfully blocked my short-term memory and left me with absolutely no memory of the surgery or prep for the surgery).
In any case, having a strong heart and a solid vascular system will help a lot with your recovery ... So: good luck ...
