So glad you got your date! And so glad that your visit helped. It is nerve wracking isn't it. When you get home you are ready for a nap! All the best as you prepare for your procedure.

hi Jen I found you.
You have a pre-surgical apt but they didn't give you a date for surgery yet? maybe I am reading this wrong because surgery has to be within 3 days of the pre surgical appt.unless you are only doing paper work. good luck keep us informed.

Hi Jenn,

I had my aortic valve replaced 10 weeks ago today. I can tell you I feel so much better today and can exercise and run without getting dizzy or fainting. You are doing what you need to do and it will save your life.
The pre op appointment is very routine so do not worry. I am sending positive thoughts and prayers your way. Please do not hesitate if you have any questions.

Hi Jenn,
I have my pre op visit in a few weeks for AVR on Nov. 7th. I have had to wait almost 6 months ..was diagnosed in May. It's been a very long road and nothing has even happened yet! You are in good hands and it will be over before you know it. Hang in there!

Jenn, I had mitral valve replacement with a tissue valve 6 weeks ago. The waiting was tough, the surgery was tough, but if you do what the nurses and doctors say, your recovery will go well, too, but slow. That's just the way it is. And I am 62.
You will get through it.

Hey Jenn
Welcome. Yes, it is a ton to think of. I will have my surgery on 11/5 so you and I are on a similar timeline. I have found this site wonderful. Great people who are on the same journey willing to share whatever they know. I wish you the best on the 16th. Good luck on your valve decision.

Jenn, the waiting was very difficult for me. My wife says that once we arrived at Cleveland Clinic I relaxed after 4 months of worry. My surgery and recovery were as tough as I expected. But no worse and completely doable. My mental stress dropped from underlying panic to calm when I woke up after surgery. It was that big of a change.

It will be all you think about. The worst for me was waiting for the surgery. Once I had a date I just wanted to get it done. I choose the tissue valve because I am bad with remembering to take meds and you cant miss a dose of the comedian with the mechanical valve. There is a chance I will have to have it replaced in 20 years but like my surgeon said by then it will be no big deal

Did they give you any idea from our admit appointment to your surgery date? I see my surgeon on the 16 then I am guessing I will also have a admit appointment. I really just want this over.
Jenn Padbury  I was told 2-3 was after my pre-admit. It feels like all u do is wait. What valve are u having repla ... Read more

Jean,
I'm probably old enough to be your grandfather; lots of folks on this website are. However, if "we geezers" can get though this surgery, you can too, with flying colors. Sure, it's major surgery, but not as bad as you think. I'm 66 and bounced-back really quickly. My guess is that you'd bounce-back even faster thanks to your age. It's all about finding a great surgeon, a great hospital and doing exactly what they tell you to do.
I had my aortic valve replaced 9 weeks ago and went back to work and was waking over 2 miles after 4 weeks.
Jenn Padbury  Thanks , that's what I keep telling myself. I am young and healthy over wise so that should help with ... Read more
