Hey Dad,
I heard the surgery was a success. I'm glad to hear it...I've been successful in not freaking out so far so try not to give me a reason to while you're still in the hospital.
Seeing as I have about a month before I get back to Berkeley, I'm hoping your recovery runs smooth enough for you to be able to handle the presence of an energetic 17 lb dog by mid March.
Also try to be patient with Lolo and Lola, I know they'll eventually be there to watch after your every need, or at least make sure Mom is (That should put her in a good mood!).
Anyway, I love you Dad. I hope this operation hasn't given you too much of a scare, especially with retirement just around the corner.

I've been thinking about you all day, but waiting to check in until I was sure the surgery was over. While I am not surprised it went well, it's still a great relief to hear that it did. I have tears running down my face, thankfully tears of joy, not sorrow. Cant wait to come over for a visit, and get back out hiking, golfing and goofing around,

Dr. Melikian did my AVR op in Nov. @ Kaiser SF. He is super fast ! I had a good experience ( all things considered) and no complications post op . Yesterday I went on a 7 mile hike up a mountain in Marin. Good luck to you both !

We are extremely excited to hear that Jack is already on the road to recovery. We wish you both all the best and look forward to celebrating this heart valve repair over a nice martini.
Jack Laws Thanks for checking in, Boo. And by the way, a late "Happy Birthday"! We've been a little preoccupied. Hope you had a great day.

Hi Jack and Rhonda
needless to say, Rhonda's email was a surprise (er... shock)-- but it was good to read more on the journal about what's ahead. (it's one way to get some time off from work, eh?)
I'm passing the info along to Dave F-- he also had a mitral valve repair a while back... (he can tell you his details-)- but it sure doesn't stop him from flying and aerobatics, biking, running, working, skiing, travelling and all sorts of other things. Glad to know you've got lots of good company-- and loving support.
Looking forward to reading about all the post-surgery updates and positive tales!
Thinking of you all.

Hey Jack!
As we told you earlier, another friend had his mitral valve repaired several years ago. At first, he thought he would never get back to his previous level of fitness, but now he does ten mile hikes as a matter of routine (among other activities) and has probably never been as strong and had as much endurance in his life. This summer he'll be hiking the John Muir trail for two weeks.
I know you'll do great!
Much love,
Donna

You've got a heart??!!
Just kidding of course -- your caring heart is well known and very much appreciated by me. Now it is going in for a tune-up. Can we send our brains in for tune-ups too? Please ask your Doc. There are some 1960s memories I'd like to retouch.
I am around and retired JUST to help take care of you! I can listen to your golf stories for days.

Hi Jack and re
My husband Thomas just had mitral valve repair on January 24 at the Univ. of Michigan Cardiovascular Center in Ann Arbor. The waiting for the survey day to arrive is the worst part. You will do just. fine and be home before you know it.
Thomas' recovery has been moving atan exceptionally fast pace. We flew hometo California yesterday, We left the hospital in Ann Arbor, 30 minute taxi ride to Detroit airport. Left Detroit at 11:45, changed planes in Phoenix, and then on to Sacramento. And fromairport a45 minutecar ridehome. Thomas did not need any assistance. He got in and out of cars, and walked everywhere we needed to go. In Phoenix he didn't want to use a wheelchair, and our gates were as far apart as they could possibly be. AND, we didn't have a lot of time between flights! He did fantastic and was barely puffing when we got to the gate.
Just continue to think positive thoughts and you will be doing the same before you know it.
Jack Laws Wow, did I do the math right? That's about 12 days after surgery! Impressive! Hope Thomas' recovery continues at that wonderful pace. Welcome home! I'm ... Read more
