Walter Zintz posted a note for Ernie that says: Since Ernie doesn't mention what he did on Thanksgiving it probably wasn't too exciting. To cheer him up, I hereby begin a campaign to tell him what unordinary things some of the rest of us did. My main event Thanksgiving Day was to drive over 60 miles to the only blood bank open that day and donate a pint of blood.

The jaunt took almost 4 hours because the nurses on duty that day kind of bungled things. Example: they poked a needle in my right arm for over 10 minutes without getting more than a few tablespoons of blood, then threw all
the plastic tubing, blood bags and needle into the trash and started over on my left. But eventually I donated my pint, and I feel good about it.

I would say lay off the booze but that would be hypocritical of me as well as ignored, we know you now. None of that is one weight watchers list.

When I was in high school I hung out with a couple of kids who were into animation; one of them even built his own animation stand. My own participation was limited to making a hundred foot hand-painted animation reel; I drew it directly on clear leader. If I could find that now, I would gladly send it to you. I too have felt that lack of energy and motivation to do things--even now--and I am 3 months post surgery. I think it has a lot to do with the physical and psychological trauma of going through a major physical assault on one's body and the ups and downs of recovery. On top of that, it is kind of nice to be the center to attention and to have a legitimate excuse to not do much and have others look after you. Now its time to get back to all the responsibilities of life! I think all of this plays a role, but it is mostly that the body may heal but still needs time to recover. I tend to push myself, so I haven't paid as much attention to this, but that lack of energy is definitely there fore me some days more than others.
I too was surprised when I started cardio rehab--and the first session was similar to yours. I did find it helpful to talk to the nurse about my progress. The second session was a stress test to confirm I was ready for cardio rehab. So didn't actually start until the third session. Why don't they explain this--so you can be prepared!
And be prepared--they start you slowly to make sure that you don't overtax that healing heart!!!

I read on Gabi's journal that you had a tough patch last week. I am sorry to hear that. I miss your naturally upbeat manner but this recovery stuff can be a tough, and sometimes, a scary thing. I am just into the process myself but I can see progress, maybe an unexpected event and times when I am afraid. How the drugs affect me I can not say although on the main the drugs sure have helped me. I am glad you got in 3 miles on the treadmill after the paperwork. That is a lot of work and you did what you could do in that moment. I am rooting for you as you continue to heal my west coast brother.
