Glad to hear about the improvements. I'm so happy you got rid of your oxygen. I've been on oxygen more on than off in the last six years so I know what it's like to have difficulty breathing and to be tied to that tube in your nose. Hopefully after my transplant I will be able to get rid of my oxygen. Pray that you will be able to be discharged tomorrow. Nancy Parnell

Dear Carla - Your progress must be bordering setting new records - What a great witness for the Lord's mighty power and mercy - Indeed we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and His watchcare is over all! So glad to hear you were able to stop the oxygen and get your first shower! Can't believe you might be discharged by the end of this week!!! Won't you Senna (sp?) be excited to see you sooner than you thought, ir you're really able to come home earlier than originally planned?
Jen, thanks again for your time and care and all the updates for your Mom . . . and for your "go-between" status for your dad with the hospital. What a blessing you've been to them, and to us. Thank Erik & the kids for sharing you with all of us.
Missed seeing you both, Randy & Carla in church yesterday, but you were there in our hearts & prayers. Randy, hope your cold is all cleared up by now -
We'll keep checking the postings to see how things are going, and when you might be getting back to FL - Love, Darla

Hi Carla, Randy and Jennifer,
We missed you at Grace this morning....Pastor Jerry gave us an update about you from the pulpit, thanking God for His loving care in your surgery.
A blessed day of teaching as Pastor Jerry finished Romans 4.....such an encouraging message about the Truth of the Bible and the authority it carries as the Word of God. And what a great hope for us as followers of Jesus Christ knowing that God has raised Him from the dead for our justification, and through Jesus Christ we can have peace again with God!
We are so blessed to a be a part of your family in Christ, and to be able to lift you in prayer. Pastor Jerry also read Psalm 139 today, and I was reminded once again of God's sovereign grace in the life of a believer. Thankful we serve such a loving God.
We can't wait until you are back at Grace with us....hope you know how much you are loved and highly esteemed by the body at GIBC and well beyond.
with my love in Christ,
Nancy for the K's
19Without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah's womb;
20yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God,
21and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.
22Therefore IT WAS ALSO CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.
23Now not for his sake only was it written that it was credited to him,
24but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, as those who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,
25 He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.

There is progress and that matters. The fluid in the lung is pretty common. I was able to come home with meds and it took about two weeks to work. Carla is getting excellent care so continue to keep faith that all the right decisions are being made. Give Carla my best. Continuing with lots of prayers.

Hi Carla, Randy, and Jennifer,
We are happy to hear that things are going well with your recovery. I was thinking that Jennifer could start a new career as a "hospital consultant". I have learned because of my parents the importance of staying on top of things and asking lots of questions during a hospital stay, but it is often confusing for a non medical person. It is fantastic that Jennifer has the knowledge to make sure everything goes as it should. You make a great team, and that will only be a positive as you recover from surgery. Take care!
Love and prayers,

My fluid was removed here at home, 3 weeks post op. Breathing was immensly improved after that, so having it done in the hospital if need be, will help. Seems like a lot of fluid for IV Lasix to remove. You are blessed to be in the best heart hospital there is. When I was there last month I felt there wasn't any problem they hadn't dealt with before. Prayers continue.

Great is thy faithfulness, Oh God my Father
There is no shadow of turning with thee
Thou changest not, thy compassions they fail not,
As thou hast been, thou forever wilt be.
But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. "The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him." Lamentations 3:21-24

Carla,
HI, we are so glad everything went ok. We have been praying for you. We will continue to pray for your blood pressure to be elevated and your strength. We love reading this journal. Your daughter Jennifer seems so sweet in taking care of you. Vanessa learned the whole song that Sara had learned and memorized it too. She loves it. We miss you and love you. We will continue praying for you. One of my favorite verse is Romans 8:28 saying "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him who has been called according to his purpose." It helps me to know God is in control and everything will be ok.

I awoke last night and prayed for you..and also for Nancy Parnell to get her long awaited phone call regarding the liver transplant. She has so faithfully supported you on this journey.
Repeatedly I have thought of Psalm 23 for both of you. "The Lord is my Shepherd..." every moment of every day...for every breath... every step...every movement... every thought...every heartbeat.
Ben and I are praying for a restful night for you and Jennifer (Nancy too)and for a better day tomorrow.

Dear Carla,
I can't tell you how meaningful these updates have been to me! Thanks so much to your sweet daughter for...being there, caring for you and keepin us up to date. It's all reminding me of being with my dad - but of course that was a whole different deal (cancer). I know how long those days and nights can be. It's so good that you have two family members who can 'tag team' the hospital stays. You're so right about there being NO SLEEP in the hospital!!!
So...I will be praying for your strength to increase and your appetite to improve and that pain to stay away and...just general healing and well-being for ALL OF YOU.
Love you so much,
Kathy Daniel

What a dear you are to be there through this for your mom and dad. Having you there would give your dad great confidence in knowing Carla is totally in the best hands. Carla,
Today was the Brunch and Tea by the Sea at church. Sarah and Lizzy helped me hostess a table. Cat Gilmore and Katie Phillips sat with us to enjoy the girls. The fellowship hall was full to capacity with 250 ladies! We had a wonderful time! Tomorrow the children's choir is singing Precious Jesus in the two morning services. I"m sure Sarah told you she is doing the opening solo, followed by Tori Giol. We miss you, our faithful piano teacher! We will be thinking of you especially during services tomorrow without you in your "on stage" position! We are praying for your recovery and peace. I am so glad to hear you pain is minimal, even though the rehab is slow and hard. Have Jennifer read Psalm 46, is is a great comfort to me!

Hi Carla... and Randy & Jennifer:
What a privilige it is to continue praying for you, our sister in Christ. Reading through all of the prayers that are being offered up on your behalf... and keeping up with the daily journaling to help focus our prayers... we can surely see how "Great is God's faithfulness!" And it's not over! You are gaining strength ever so quickly. It must be those chocolate coissants. Our family will continue to pray for you, as well as the staff and doctors that will be attending to you... that any "reading" are accurately stated, etc. We know you will continue to be strengthened, not only in body, but in your faith in Jesus Christ.
We love you in Christ,
Sandra Stone

Proverbs 4:20-22
My child, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.
Exodus 15:26
He said, "If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in his sight, and give heed to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will not bring upon you any of the diseases that I brought upon the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you."
Psalm 107:19-21
Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress; he sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from destruction. Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wonderful works to humankind.
Exodus 23:25
You shall worship the Lord your God, and I will bless your bread and your water; and I will take sickness away from among you.

Jennifer,
What joy to see Erik's entry! That should be an energy boost for today and many days to come. You are able to be there because he is holding down the fort at home. I know first hand what a blessing that is!
I'm glad you referred to "your patients" because some reading this may not realize your training to be the perfect caregiver at this time. Randy must be delighted that you know just what to do and when to do it.

Psalms 31: 10-31
The Wife of Noble Character
A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls. She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
I LOVE YOU
Erik

Good Morning Carla,
I was told each day would not necessarily be a better day than the day before, but that is what I wanted, but the doctors were right. Walk as much as you can and then rest in between, the combination will help. Has the pulmonary tech been in to give you the spirometer to use? Some people call it a torture device but for me it was (and still is) a necessary evil.My verse for you is one you gave me (and others).

So thankful that Carla continues to do so well. As you well know, every day is uneven and the progress is not uniform, and that's okay. I well remember the middle of the night visits and labs. Well, blurry as it is! Keep on pushing at the right level without pushing too hard. Delicate balance and art. God is so with you and giving you everything you need.
Isaiah 40:29-31
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the LORD

they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
