Dr. James' partner, Dr. Thomas performed my bypass surgery at CDH. Dr. James was heavily involved in monitoring my progress after the surgery. He would stop by once or twice a day, checking on my vitals/stats. He would then adjust my meds accordingly and I must say, effectively.

Bob Eldi posted a note for Bob that says: Hey Bob - Bob Eldi here in Amagansett, NY (eastern LI - the Hamptons) - I'm a 72 year old math teacher - I was diagnosed with a heart murmur from early childhood - nothing ever came of it, but about 7 years ago my family doctor sent me to a cardiologist - I had a bicuspid aortic valve, stenosis was setting in, and regurgitation was growing. It was monitored yearly & got worse. Exactly 2 years ago I went to Columbia Presbyterian in NYC to see Dr. Allan Stewart - I was getting winded going up stairs - my regurgiitation was up to 40% and he said I had 2 years if I did nothing - I was 70, in great shape (5'8" and 145) - still active, still teaching even though I retired from public school in 1999. I made the appt for Feb 2013 and had a bovine tissue valve replacement. I feel great now - back to where I was 10 years ago. It's not a walk in the park, but you can make it easier. I worked out religiously for the 3 months prior to surgery, especially my abs & legs (getting up out of bed is critical) - I ate well, slept a ton , and was ready by Feb 20. The first few days are tough, but getting up & walking was the key. I followed all the doctor said, and did my physical therapy to the fullest. When they said I could walk outside, I started at 1/4 mile and slowly increased to 2 miles. By the summer I was helping a friend build a house. My husband who is 58 just had an AVR on Oct 22. He is scheduled to go back to work Dec 3. He did great they were able to do it minimally invasive. We were very nervous and scared, but put our faith and trust in God and the Blessed Virgin. Our family priest came and anointed my husband before surgery too. That gave us much peace. It sounds as though you have an excellent take on the surgeon and your "Team" and this is also important and will bring you further Peace as the day approaches that these people, "Youre team" are gifts from God in themselves. From the moment you are wheeled into surgery I hope you know you are already in the best of "Hands" and that from the surgery and into recovery you can count on all of those around you are there taking the best care you can get with you as their main focus. I want to say that I had my Aortic Valve replacement on Aug. 20th and that it was not as bad as I had imagined due to the fact that this site and the wonderful people in it were there and are still here- a community of People able to help you if needed from start to finish. I wish you well and Pray your experience is one of healing and strength for you and those you love. Looking forward to reading about your journey!
