Barbara Bush&#8217;s heart surgery took place at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas and lasted about two and a half hours.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/Images\/barbara-bush-heart-surgery.jpg\" alt=\"Barbara Bush - Heart Surgery Patient\" width=\"222\" height=\"287\" \/><br \/>\nBarbara Bush &#8211; Heart Valve Surgery Patient<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bush, like many patients, was suffering from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/aortic-stenosis-valve-heart-narrowing.php\">shortness of breath due to aortic stenosis<\/a>. This valvular disease results from a narrowing of the heart valve which may occur due to congenital factors, calcification or infection.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/surgeons\/dr-Gerald-Lawrie-Houston-Texas.php\">Dr. Gerald Lawrie, a heart surgeon<\/a> at the Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center, replaced the aortic valve with a biological tissue valve that was most likely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2007\/09\/19\/pig-valve-replacement\/\">a pig valve<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2007\/08\/23\/cow-valve-replacement-surgery-bovine-valves\/\">a cow valve<\/a>. Bush, was at the hospital with his wife. Like most heart valve surgery patients, Barbara Bush remained in the intensive care unit following the operation.
