{"id":714,"date":"2009-02-24T23:06:59","date_gmt":"2009-02-25T04:06:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2009\/02\/24\/medtronic-corevalve-ventor-acquisition-aortic-valve\/"},"modified":"2018-09-01T12:26:54","modified_gmt":"2018-09-01T17:26:54","slug":"medtronic-corevalve-ventor-acquisition-aortic-valve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2009\/02\/24\/medtronic-corevalve-ventor-acquisition-aortic-valve\/","title":{"rendered":"Medtronic Further Consolidates Heart Valve Industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On November 27, 2007, I posted a blog titled, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2007\/11\/27\/will-heart-valve-manufacturers-consolidate-and-gobble-up-each-other\/\">&#8220;Will Heart Valve Manufacturers Consolidate And Gobble Up Each Other?&#8221;.<\/a> In that post, I rambled-on about the possibility that the heart valve industry would consolidate to create advantages for both patients and manufacturers.<\/p>\n<p>Guess what?<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Medtronic spent over $1 billion to acquire two heart valve manufacturers &#8211; CoreValve and Ventor Technologies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/Images\/medtronic.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>In the first deal, Minneapolis-headquartered Medtronic acquired CoreValve, developer of a transcatheter, transfemoral aortic valve replacement product. The deal calls for an initial payment of $700 million plus additional payments contingent upon the achievement of agreed milestones.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/Images\/core-valve-image.gif\" \/><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">CoreValve Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In the second deal, Medtronic acquired Ventor Technologies, a developer of transcatheter heart valve technologies for the treatment of aortic valve disease. The company will acquire Ventor for a payment of $325 million.<\/p>\n<p>While Medtronic is one of the global leaders in medical technology, it is not the leading heart valve manufacturer.
