{"id":39159,"date":"2024-09-09T02:17:07","date_gmt":"2024-09-09T07:17:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/?p=39159"},"modified":"2024-09-12T12:55:14","modified_gmt":"2024-09-12T17:55:14","slug":"harvest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2024\/09\/09\/harvest\/","title":{"rendered":"Off-Topic:  It&#8217;s Summer Harvest Time!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As many of you know, I love to try and grow vegetables.\u00a0 For many years, I failed miserably.\u00a0 Nothing went right.\u00a0 I grew the wrong varieties for our climate. I grew the wrong strains that didn&#8217;t fit in my little garden.\u00a0 I was so bad that I almost gave up.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-39160\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/..\/Images\/gardening-compost-harvest.jpg\" alt=\"Harvesting Vegetables\" width=\"600\" height=\"738\" \/><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Then, one night I was out to dinner with a friend.\u00a0 I explained my farming horror stories to her.\u00a0 She looked at me and said, &#8220;Do you use compost? If not, you gotta try it.&#8221;\u00a0 So, that&#8217;s exactly what I did.\u00a0It has now been two summers since I started using compost.\u00a0 The results have been downright wonderful.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see above and below, my little garden is now yielding bunches of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and more.\u00a0 Given the heat here in Los Angeles, my wife and I have been making a lot of gazpacho soup and salsa.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-39161\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/..\/Images\/tomato-harvest.jpg\" alt=\"Tomato Bowl\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/>Roma, Cherry and Celebrity Tomatoes<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This season&#8230; I am probably most happy by the fact that, for the first time, I have actually grown an edible pepper.
