relative to the spread of COVID-19, there are five core reasons.<\/p>\n<p>First&#8230; We read the article, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/health-shots\/2020\/03\/13\/815502262\/flattening-a-pandemics-curve-why-staying-home-now-can-save-lives\">&#8220;Flattening A Pandemic Curve: Why Staying Home Now Can Save Lives&#8221;<\/a>.\u00a0 The article and the chart below made clear the correlation among the incidence of disease, the utility of social distancing as a protective measure, and the capacity of healthcare systems.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31344\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/..\/Images\/covid-19-pandemic-spread-social-distance.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"298\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Second&#8230; We were forwarded the short video, &#8220;Self Isolation in 27 Seconds&#8221;, which contextualized the life-or-death value of social distancing using the potential dangers of fire and matches.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/00doYWSFw58\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Third&#8230; After posting the article, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/coronavirus-covid-19.php\">&#8220;Coronavirus, COVID-19 &amp; Heart Valve Disease: 20 Facts to Know&#8221;<\/a>, I have needed to update the death toll on that page every day.\u00a0 Initially, it was 3,200 deaths.\u00a0 This morning, the death toll is over 22,000.\u00a0 Each time I update that count, I feel like I have been punched right in the gut.\u00a0 Each time, I end up hunched over my desk, with hands over my eyes, saying a prayer for those that have passed.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth&#8230; The article, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/goatsandsoda\/2020\/03\/12\/814522489\/singapore-wins-praise-for-its-covid-19-strategy-the-u-s-does-not?fbclid=IwAR1LQyvZhGIEpb6bo7vgw3FusNMKwwXDwIgjtF2OZ__U4uKw8tva8O4L7-Q\">&#8220;Singapore Wins Praise for Its COVID-19 Strategy.\u00a0 The U.S. Does Not&#8221;<\/a>, really made us think about what happened as the virus infested the Chinese people.\u00a0 Now, we&#8217;re seeing it in Italy, Spain, South Korea and Iran.\u00a0 \u00a0We can only imagine what might happen to our &#8220;COVID-19 Outbreak Curve&#8221;
