I thought you might like to see these pictures as they illustrate the challenges of heart valve disease and the opportunities of heart valve treatment. The procedure was performed by Dr. David Adams at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/Images\/monique-3.jpg\" alt=\"Patient Using Incentive Spirometer In Intensive Care Unit\" width=\"264\" height=\"236\" \/><br \/>\nMonique At Mount Sinai Hospital<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As Monique writes to me, &#8220;The pictures below are amazing!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I completely agree.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/Images\/before-after-mitral-valve-repair.jpg\" alt=\"Before &amp; After Pictures Of Mitral Valve Repair Surgery\" width=\"500\" height=\"190\" \/><br \/>\nMonique&#8217;s Mitral Valve<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>After looking at these mitral valve pictures, which were taken during the operation, I immediately noticed three things.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, I noticed the diseased condition of Monique&#8217;s mitral valve in the original photo. Monique had a mitral valve prolapse which caused her heart valve to leak and murmur.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Next, I noticed how nice the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2008\/10\/05\/mitral-leaflet-anatomy-problems-pictures-of-mitral-leaflets\/\">two mitral valve leaflets<\/a> come together in the post-operative picture. This will definitely help prevent against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/mitral-valve-regurgitation-symptoms-leaking.php\">mitral regurgitation<\/a> in the future.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Finally, I noticed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/surgeons\/dr-David-Adams-New+York-New%20York.php\" >Dr. Adams<\/a> used an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2009\/12\/15\/annuloplasty-rings\/\">annuloplasty band or ring<\/a> to enhance valvular and cardiac function going forward.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/profileImages\/45_129_181.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. David Adams\" width=\"129\" height=\"181\" \/><br \/>\nDr. David Adams<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Most importantly&#8230; Monique is doing well after mitral valve surgery. She writes to me, &#8220;I am feeling stronger every day &#8212; although I had an issue losing fluid weight after surgery. The nurses explained that my body was pumped with different medicines to protect my heart in the first several days following surgery. At the peak, I weighed 146 pounds. Now, I&#8217;m down to 128. I continue a daily Lasix and potassium regiment.
