{"id":30678,"date":"2019-11-12T18:07:05","date_gmt":"2019-11-12T23:07:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/?p=30678"},"modified":"2019-11-12T19:34:26","modified_gmt":"2019-11-13T00:34:26","slug":"track-and-field","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2019\/11\/12\/track-and-field\/","title":{"rendered":"Guest Blog:  6 Years After Heart Valve Surgery, Jim is a Track-and-Field Success!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The favorite part of my work as a patient advocate is connecting with the wonderful patients in our community.<\/p>\n<p>That said, I recently met Jim Jones, a financial consultant from Maine, who had a mitral valve repair procedure.\u00a0 Six years after surgery, I am happy to share Jim&#8217;s thoughts and pictures about his surgical experience and his love of track-and-field.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30670\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/..\/Images\/Joe-Kusiak-Jim-Jones-Mt-Sinai-Recovery.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"382\" height=\"447\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Jim Says&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p>Here is what Jim sent me:<\/p>\n<p>On November 5, 2013, at just about this time, I was awakening in the critical intensive care unit from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/mitral-valve-repair-surgery.php\">mitral valve repair surgery<\/a> at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.\u00a0 Doctor David Adams and his team performed the surgery and gave me the wonderful opportunity to live a much higher quality of life.<\/p>\n<p>Now, six years later to the day, I am living an energetic and fulfilling life that has even included the return to road racing and track-and-field.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30674\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/..\/Images\/Jim-Jones-Maine-Games-800-meters.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"172\" height=\"305\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My latest endeavor has been the participation in the Senior Track and Field Games in three states.\u00a0 I had the pleasure of competing in the Maine, the New Hampshire and the Rhode Island &#8220;Senior Games&#8221; this summer.\u00a0 Returning to my high school and college roots, I raced the 800 and 1500 meter events.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30671\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/..\/Images\/Jim-Jones-Maine-Games-Between-Races.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"297\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After all these years, I am still motivated to race in order to try and win small shiny objects and colorful ribbons.\u00a0 Recently, I garnered two gold, one silver and three bronze medals in my age group.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30684\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/..\/Images\/Jim-Jones-2019-Senior-Games-Medals-ME-NH-RI-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"316\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As I celebrate this six year anniversary, I am deeply grateful and indebted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/surgeons\/dr-David-Adams-New+York-New%20York.php\">Dr. Adams<\/a> and his team and to my Boston-based medical team.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/profileImages\/45_129_181.jpg\" width=\"129\" height=\"181\" \/>Dr. David Adams (Jim&#8217;s Surgeon)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I am also so grateful to you, Adam, HeartValveSurgery.com, and all the wonderful HVS patients and friends that I met and depended on throughout the journey.
