In my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/subscribe-adams-blog.php\">heart valve surgery newsletter<\/a>, I asked our patient community a very simple question, &#8220;Would you recommend your heart surgeon?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If so, patients could instantly provide their reviews at our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/surgeon-database\/add-valve-surgeon.php\">online surgeon recommendation form<\/a>.\u00a0 Ultimately, the patient recommendations would help current and future patients find and learn about their potential heart surgeons.<\/p>\n<p>I was not prepared for what happened next&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30214\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/..\/Images\/Patient-Reviews-FB-600X314.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"314\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Within hours, I received 400+ surgeon recommendations from patients all over the world!!!\u00a0 The patient reviews are still coming in.<\/p>\n<p>As I&#8217;m writing this, I just received a patient recommendation for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/surgeons\/dr-Marc-Gillinov-Cleveland-Ohio.php\">Dr. Marc Gillinov<\/a> at the Cleveland Clinic and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/surgeons\/dr-David-Adams-New+York-New%20York.php\">Dr. David Adams<\/a> at Mount Sinai Hospital.\u00a0 Next up, I&#8217;m getting ready to post this question at our Facebook page that has over 285,000 members.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re curious, our top three heart surgeons to receive patient reviews are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/surgeons\/dr-Luis-Castro-Redwood+City-California.php\">Dr. Luis Castro (200+ patient reviews)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/surgeons\/dr-Patrick-McCarthy-Chicago-Illinois.php\">Dr. Patrick McCarthy (200+ patient reviews)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/surgeons\/dr-Marc-Gerdisch-Indianapolis-Indiana.php\">Dr. Marc Gerdisch (125+ patient reviews)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Are Heart Surgeon Reviews Important for Patients?<\/h2>\n<p>All of this wonderful community support for current and future patients really made me think, &#8220;How important are online reviews for health care providers?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After doing some research, I was quite shocked to learn just how important online patient reviews are for medical provider research and selection.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthleadersmedia.com\/clinical-care\/70-patients-call-online-reviews-crucial-selecting-healthcare-providers\">this report<\/a> by Christopher Cheney at HealthLeaders,\u00a070% of patients refer to online reviews as \u201ccrucial\u201d in selecting healthcare providers.\u00a0 Of the 839 patients surveyed, 74.6% had researched doctors, dentists and medical care online.\u00a0 The study also suggested that 69.9% of respondents said a positive online reputation is very or extremely important in selecting a healthcare provider.<\/li>\n<li>At <a href=\"https:\/\/patientengagementhit.com\/news\/how-do-patients-use-online-provider-reviews-for-care-decisions\">this post<\/a> on\u00a0PatientEngagementHIT, a recent study suggested that 82% of 2,500 patients surveyed use online reviews to evaluate their doctors in some way.\u00a0 That is a a 57% increase since 2013.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29909\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/..\/Images\/online-patient-reviews.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"288\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Amazon, Yelp and Angies&#8217;s List, I guess this makes complete sense given the shifts in consumer behaviors over the past 10 years.\u00a0 Case in point&#8230; My wife, Robyn, is addicted to online reviews.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t matter if it&#8217;s a restaurant, a hotel or a plumber.\u00a0 The first thing Robyn asks me about any product or service provider is, &#8220;What do the reviews say?&#8221;
