{"id":24560,"date":"2018-05-10T12:33:29","date_gmt":"2018-05-10T17:33:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/?p=24560"},"modified":"2019-02-26T18:29:31","modified_gmt":"2019-02-26T23:29:31","slug":"dr-david-adams-aats-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2018\/05\/10\/dr-david-adams-aats-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Congratulations to Dr. David Adams, New AATS President!!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On behalf of his patients, their families and our global community&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to extend a mighty &#8220;CONGRATULATIONS!!!&#8221; to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/surgeons\/dr-David-Adams-New+York-New%20York.php\">Dr. David Adams<\/a> who was just announced as the 99th President of the American Association of Thoracic Surgery (AATS). \u00a0 As you may know, Dr. Adams, who is the Cardiac Surgeon-in-Chief at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, is a mitral valve repair guru. \u00a0He&#8217;s written books on mitral valve repair. He&#8217;s invented mitral valve repair devices. He&#8217;s ran <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2013\/08\/05\/mitral-foundation-center-workshop-video\/\">conferences about mitral valve repair<\/a>. \u00a0And, he&#8217;s even started the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mitralfoundation.org\">Mitral Foundation<\/a>, a unique philanthropic organization that has taken him all over the world to teach mitral valve repair techniques.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24562\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/..\/Images\/Dr-David-Adams-AATS-President.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"508\" \/>Dr. David Adams<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Personally, I am so happy and thankful that the AATS, which is the oldest and most prestigious organization dedicated to cardiothoracic surgery, recognized Dr. Adams for his commitment to advance valvular therapy and his patient-centric vision specific to mitral valve reconstruction. \u00a0I am so hopeful his presidency will translate into an elevated awareness to Dr. Adams&#8217; beliefs, research, clinical experiences and extraordinary outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uOM7_8ayUAc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Over the years&#8230; It&#8217;s been excellent hearing all the successful outcomes from patients in our community that went to Dr. Adams for surgery. \u00a0Currently, Dr. Adams and his team perform over 450 mitral valve operations per year with a 99% repair rate. \u00a0Without even thinking about it, I can quickly ramble off patient names including Mark Linnus, Sophie Marsh, Boris Keyser and so many others. \u00a0Here&#8217;s a memorable video I filmed with Brian Walsh, a patient of Dr. Adams, that returned to his passion, running, after a successful mitral valve repair.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4w-Km5f7fsE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lucky for me&#8230; I&#8217;ve been fortunate to spend time with Dr. Adams in the operating room at Mount Sinai, on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2013\/11\/08\/dominican-republic-medical-mission\/\">medical mission in the Dominican Republic<\/a> and, of course, at the annual Heart Valve Summit. \u00a0So you know, Dr. Adams was one of the first surgeons to support my ideas about patient education. \u00a0 I&#8217;ll never forget when I first met Dr. Adams at a conference in 2011. \u00a0During that lunch, Dr. Adams said to me in his Southern accent, &#8220;You keep doing what you&#8217;re doing. \u00a0It&#8217;s so important. \u00a0Patients need to know about their disease and how to treat it. \u00a0I want to help. \u00a0Please let me know what I can do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That vote of confidence from Dr. Adams gave me the courage to build HeartValveSurgey.com while others were telling me I was wasting my time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nOpt7eAwoI8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For these, and so many other reasons, I&#8217;m thrilled to see this announcement.
