As we prepare to enter 2015, I thought it might be helpful to look back at the stories that generated the most interest and social sharing during the past twelve months.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/Images\/top10.jpg\" alt=\"Top 10 Heart Valve Blogs of 2014\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>10. Our patient community rallied around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2014\/02\/04\/marcus-heart-valve-center-launch\/\">Bernie Marcus, Home Depot co-founder, who donated $20 million<\/a>\u00a0to Piedmont Health, in Atlanta, Georgia, to advance valvular research and therapy at the new Marcus Heart Valve Center. This post had 200+ social shares across Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe data-src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6XuBMDO2MDQ\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>9. In August, we remembered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2014\/08\/12\/remembering-robin-williams\/\">the life, the work and the comedy\u00a0of Robin Williams<\/a>, who had\u00a0double heart valve surgery in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2014\/08\/12\/remembering-robin-williams\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/Images\/robin-williams-heart-shirt.jpg\" alt=\"Robin Williams\" width=\"290\" height=\"454\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>8. Last January, we were very fortunate to learn about the extraordinary story of Jessie Rees, her foundation and the wonderful impact that JoyJars are having on children diagnosed with cancer and heart disease. Attending the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2014\/01\/18\/joyjars-jessie-rees-foundation-edwards-lifesciences\/\">JoyJar event sponsored by Edwards Lifesciences<\/a>\u00a0was beyond touching.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2014\/01\/18\/joyjars-jessie-rees-foundation-edwards-lifesciences\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/Images\/jessie-rees-joy-jars-foundation.jpg\" alt=\"Joy Jars\" width=\"470\" height=\"562\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>7. Many people in our community are fascinated by\u00a0the new technologies advancing valvular therapy. So, when the FDA announced that the CoreValve, a new transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) device, received an accelerated approval, this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2014\/06\/19\/corevalve-high-risk-fda-approval\/\">CoreValve update<\/a> became an instant hit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2014\/06\/19\/corevalve-high-risk-fda-approval\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/Images\/corevalve-implanted_medtronic.jpg\" alt=\"CoreValve\" width=\"536\" height=\"263\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>6. During the\u00a0past 3 years, I&#8217;ve had a great time making educational videos about heart valve surgery. This video with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/surgeons\/dr-Alfredo-Trento-Los+Angeles-California.php\">Dr. Alfredo Trento<\/a> about robotic mitral valve repair quickly circulated around our community with 300+ social shares.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe data-src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ANcCwBnEl4E\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>5. \u00a0In August,\u00a0we relaunched HeartValveSurgery.com with over 200 new features. Our community quickly embraced the new platform. With 600+ social shares, our new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2014\/01\/08\/mitral-regurgitation-infographic\/\">Mitral Regurgitation Infographic<\/a> circulated throughout our community faster than expected. This educational resources\u00a0helps patients, their families and friends learn about mitral valve disorders and their treatment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2014\/01\/08\/mitral-regurgitation-infographic\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19056\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/..\/Images\/Screen-Shot-2014-12-31-at-8.30.12-AM.png\" alt=\"Mitral Regurgitation Infographic\" width=\"432\" height=\"288\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3. Our Live Educational Webinar Series continues to be an effective\u00a0way for people\u00a0to learn about heart valve surgery from leading surgeons and cardiologists. In November, Dr. Robert Bonow and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/surgeons\/dr-Patrick-McCarthy-Chicago-Illinois.php\">Dr. Patrick McCarthy<\/a> hosted a special webinar titled, &#8220;Timing Heart Valve Surgery&#8221;. \u00a0After the webinar, we posted a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/Timing-Heart-Valve-Surgery-eBook.pdf\">free eBook<\/a>\u00a0with the written transcript from the event. In just a few days, the eBook was downloaded more than 2,000 times.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/Timing-Heart-Valve-Surgery-eBook.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/Images\/timing-heart-valve-surgery-webinar-download2.jpg\" alt=\"eBook\" width=\"397\" height=\"310\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2. With 800+ social shares, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2014\/11\/08\/mechanical-valve-pregnancy\/\">patient success story of Shannon Coughlin<\/a> touched, moved and inspired our community. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2014\/11\/08\/mechanical-valve-pregnancy\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/Images\/shannon-valve-replacement-mechanical-mother.jpg\" alt=\"Shannon Coughlin\" width=\"292\" height=\"389\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0As for the number one post of the year&#8230; It might be no surprise to you&#8230; That the number one post of 2014\u00a0also featured a webinar. In June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/surgeons\/dr-Allan-Stewart-New+York-New%20York.php\">Dr. Allan Stewart<\/a> and I hosted the &#8220;Advances In Aortic Valve Surgery&#8221; webinar. Since then, our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/eBook-Advances-Aortic-Valve-Aneurysm-Surgery.pdf\">free eBook<\/a> has been downloaded over 3,000 times!!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/eBook-Advances-Aortic-Valve-Aneurysm-Surgery.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/Images\/ebook-aortic-valve-aneurysm-allan-stewart.jpg\" alt=\"eBook - Advances in Aortic Valve Surgery\" width=\"437\" height=\"310\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There\u00a0you have it!
