{"id":18578,"date":"2014-08-12T16:11:49","date_gmt":"2014-08-12T21:11:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/?p=18578"},"modified":"2019-02-26T19:23:36","modified_gmt":"2019-02-27T00:23:36","slug":"remembering-robin-williams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/2014\/08\/12\/remembering-robin-williams\/","title":{"rendered":"In Memory of Robin Williams, Oscar Winning Actor &#038; Fellow Heart Valve Patient"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just last week, I was talking to Paul, my neighbor, about our &#8216;Top 5 Actors&#8217; of all time.\u00a0 With movies like <em>Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, Good Morning Vietnam, and The World According to Gar<\/em>p, the comedian and Oscar-award winning actor, Robin Williams topped my list.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18580\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/..\/Images\/robin-williams-heart-shirt.jpg\" alt=\"Robin Williams Heart Surgery Patient\" width=\"290\" height=\"454\" \/>Robin Williams (1951-2014)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m guessing that some of you might think I&#8217;m a tad bias towards Robin Williams &#8212; considering that he had aortic valve replacement and mitral valve repair surgery in 2009. But, the truth is&#8230; Robin Williams&#8217; valvular work, or &#8220;plumbing&#8221; as he called it, had zero impact on my discussion with Paul.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>My appreciation for Robin Williams started in the good ole&#8217; days of Mork &amp; Mindy. I quickly became captivated by his animated approach to sitcom humor. Then, as Robin transitioned into more serious roles &#8212; on the big screen &#8212; I was downright intrigued by his ability to connect with so many of us on a very deep, a very personal, and a very emotional level.\u00a0 For example, here is one of my favorite moments from <em>Good Will Hunting<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe data-src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qM-gZintWDc?rel=0\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>And then&#8230; There were Robin Williams&#8217; stand-up routines which ABC News paid tribute to earlier this morning.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe data-src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jvnetXRakKo?rel=0\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Yesterday&#8230; When Robyn, my wife, shared the news about Robin Williams&#8217; passing&#8230;\u00a0 Time stopped for me. In a nanosecond, I felt powerful and dislocating waves of disbelief, confusion and, ultimately, sadness.<\/p>\n<p>Now&#8230; One day later, I am doing my best to put aside those uncomfortable feelings to celebrate the life of Robin Williams, his work and the peace I hope he is now experiencing.<\/p>\n<p>My thoughts and my prayers are with Robin Williams, his family, his friends and his fans.
