Over the years, I have been very fortunate to know Sara Bloomfield. I first shared Sara’s story in 2011 —\u00a0after\u00a0Sara and her husband, Matt, became pregnant while closely monitoring her bicuspid aortic valve, dilated aorta and coarctation of the descending aorta. Then, in 2012, we celebrated the birth of their daughter<\/a>, Olivia.<\/p>\n

Now, after several years of “watchful waiting”, Sara is scheduled for aortic valve replacement<\/a> and aorta repair surgery on March 21.<\/p>\n

After researching her condition, surgical options and potential surgeons, Sara selected Doctor Patrick McCarthy, MD<\/a> of Northwestern Memorial Hospital<\/a> in Chicago as her cardiac surgeon.<\/p>\n

To help Sara connect with other patients — and stay in touch with her\u00a0family and friends\u00a0— Sara recently started a Heart Valve Journal. Already, Sara has posted several insightful stories about her experiences leading up to the surgery.<\/p>\n
