"Fantastic experience, very knowledgeable and thorough. Best possible surgical outcome - mitral valve repaired rather than replaced."

"Dr. Bakhos is an amazing surgeon. He met with me and my husband before the surgery, explained what to expect. All my questions were answered in detail. I am personal trainer by profession so I was adamant that I didn't want to be on coumadin. He delivered everything he had promised. "

"Dr. Bakhous is one of the best in the Chicago area. Everyone spoke highly of him with a respect that borders on awe. Dr. Bakhous has a great bedside manner, very confident and all inclusive. On parting, he said, "You do a couple hundred of these a year and you get pretty good at it.""

"I think my surgeon was very competent. Supposedly, people fly in from other countries to have him do their surgery. However, bedside manner may be another matter. I was very happy with the precare, but I was disappointed that I never saw him again AFTER the surgery. It would have made me feel more confident if he would have popped in to see me during those 6 days in the hospital after surgery. But, all in all, I think he's a great surgeon! If my outcome is any indication, than he's A+++!"

"Dr. Bakhos was recommended to me by a partner of his who only wanted to replace the valve. He told me Dr. Bakhos specializes in valve repair. If it could be repaired he was the man to do it. Dr. Bakhos is a very patient man. He took all the time to answer all questions about the surgery. Surgery went really well. I was up in a chair an hour after I came to in the recovery room. The nurse pulled the breathing tube and I sat in a chair in the ICU and had the best tasting jello while I watched the replay of the White Sox perfect game. My pain was managed very well. I was doing so well they tried to discharge me 3 days after surgery. My wife and the rehab nurse successfully lobbied for an extra day. This was a very positive and less painful than I would have imagined. Dr Bakhos was an excellent surgeon."

"Dr Bakhos is the head of the CV surgery department at Loyola Hospital, which is ranked #30 nationwide for cardiac surgery. He performs 4-5 valve repairs weekly and 500 heart surgeries per year and has 20 years of experience. He does all kind of heart surgeries, including transplants, but he especially has a reputation for valve repairs. My mitral regurgitation went from grade IV to being fixed 100% - perfect. As an RN who works in a hospital on a cardiology floor, I picked up the inside scoop on this doc. Cardiologists send their own moms and dads to him. He is The Doctor that doctors and nurses go to - can't get a stronger recommendation than that. My repair was complicated (anterior and posterior leafets plus a small mass resected from ventricle) so he could not perform it robotically but he has the skills to do so and it would be a very good option. Personally: Very patient man, answers all questions in a manner that every day person can understand, very calm, obviously happy in his line of work, always smiling. Very well respected by doctors and nurses alike - my joke was hospital staff treat him like Pharoah. Not an arrogant bone in his body and the nurses told me they could call him any time of the day or night and he would give them whatever they needed. His office nurse Kris is personable and patient as well. If you want the best cardiologist in Chicago for valves, consult with Dr. Bakhos. Will be happy to give further info by email if contacted. God bless."

"Unbelievably positive experience. My repair was text book perfect,it was completed quickly and perfectly (I was only on the heart lung machine 70 minutes ). Within 16 days following my surgery I was walking 1 to 2 miles, and 3 months later I am working out 60 minutes uninterrupted,3 days a week, using elliptical, tread mill, and rowing machines, as well as performing weight training 2 times per week.I am in better shape now than I have been in the past 20 years, A recent echo showed my leak to be completely repaired. While I was well aware that Loyola hospital had the best heart surgeon in the Midwest in Dr. Bakhos,I, along with other medical professionals are still amazed at the rapid rate of recovery I have experienced."
