"I had repair of my mitral and tricuspid valves, a Maze procedure and clipping of the left atrial appendage on Dec. 10, 2018, at Mt. Sinai. I've had atrial fib since at least age 12 (55 years). As expected, the Maze procedure didn't work (was worth a try) but when discharged my valve repairs were intact. Unfortunately, the mitral valve repair sprang a leak and I was in bad shape with systolic heart failure. Dr. John Rhee at Virginia Hospital Center (near where I live) to the rescue! On January 23, 2019, I again underwent open heart surgery, this time via a mini-thoracotomy incision. The mitral valve was not repairable (as suspected), so as we discussed, Dr. Rhee did a replacement with a mechanical valve. His expertise and bedside manner are superb and the team at this relatively small center is outstanding. My husband also thinks he is just the best - compassionate, personable and obviously loves his job and cares about his patients."

"Dr. Rhee was recommended by a friend who is a pulmonologist. I cannot say enough kind words. Most surgeons have no bedside manner, but John could not have been more pleasant and competent. A second positive feed back was from one of my patients who is a nurse anesthetist. They know the good surgeons! As a dentist, I may have received some preferentional treatment but from the feedback in recovery I think everyone is treated like I was. I can not say enough kind words."
