"Dr. Swanson and his surgical team at Providence St. Vincent performed a Mitral valve repair and single bypass on me about 5 weeks ago. Consulted with Dr. Swanson and others prior to choosing a surgeon; Dr, Swanson's personal manner and detailed information on his recommendations convinced me that he was the right choice for me. Dr. Swanson personally called me on the evening before surgery, and checked in on me several times after surgery. Everything has gone extremely well with the repair and my recovery so far. Had a couple of challenging days in ICU, but they did everything possible to help me through that period. After two days I was moved out of ICU to a private room for just 3 more nights. I experienced very little pain in the surgery area and only took tylenol for minor discomfort for the first two weeks after surgery. I am very please with the work done by Dr. Swanson and the care given at Providence St. Vincent. I highly recommend Dr. Swanson and his team at Providence."

"Very thorough in his explanation of the procedure, all though he openly admits he is working less (3 days a week) and nearing retirement. Dr. Swanson's experience and confidence in repairing my valve, gave me the confidence in choosing him.

I was in surgery for 3 hours and in ICU for 26 hours. I was walking around by the next day. I'm now walking 3 weeks later, 2-3 miles for each segment. I try to walk 2-3 segments a day.

I'm thrilled with my progress! Being healthy going into this and having a good surgeon made all the difference in my recovery."

"Dr. Swanson is an excellent surgeon and a great human being. I cannot recommend him highly enough. I research all the surgical teams in the region and it was clear he is the best for mitral valve repair. Dr. Swanson trained with Carpentier, the guy who mostly invented modern mitral valve repair techniques. His recommendations from colleagues were sterling. One retired cardiologist I found called him "an inspired surgeon." Dr. Swanson does a very high volume of these repairs. His technical skill, knowledge, patience, and bedside manner are all as good as you're going to get. My outcomes were fantastic. I got a good repair and less than a year later am back to carrying my children and running 10+ miles. I feel better than I did before this repair. "

"I had 6 months to research different kinds of valve replacement approaches. My first visit with Dr. Swanson was not what I expected. However, I went full circle and decided to go with his suggested surgery. I was 39 at the time of my surgery and I wanted to avoid the full sternotomy. Dr. Jeffrey Swanson performed it and I have to say that this was the way to go. I am extremely happy with his bedside manner and the result of my surgery. My surgery was done in 2.5 hours and was walking the next day. All what he told me about the post-op process was true. I was having dinner with friends 8 days after the surgery. Hitting balls and playing my first nine holes 8-9 weeks after the surgery. However, keep in mind I was 39. He just performed the same surgery in my wife's aunt and it's been also great. She's 70 and she was out of the hospital in less than a week. If you live close to Portland, Dr. Swanson is the guy."

Surgery also included replacement of ascending aorta as well as new valve and was over in 3 1/2 hours. Home on the 5th day following surgery and recovering well."
