NYU Medical Center Mitral Valve Surgery
Locating the right surgeon and the right medical center or hosipital is a complex process for heart valve surgery patients and their caregivers. Evaluating heart valve procedures including mitral valve repair, aortic valve replacement and/or the Ross Procedure can take time and be quite frustrating.
Personally, I researched and interviewed several physicians before selecting my heart valve surgeon. As I discuss in my book, The Patient's Guide To Heart Valve Surgery, there are several strategie for locating the best surgeon given your specific need. And, as shown in my recent study of seventy five former heart valve patients, DO NOT under-estimated the value of a second opinion.
As for NYU Medical Center Mitral Valve Surgery...
Specific to NYU Medical Center mitral valve surgery, approximately, 60,000 patients require some form of mitral valve repair each year. Due to technical advancements and medical research the rate of mortality associated with mitral valve repair and heart valve surgery, in general, has greatly decreased while patient success following surgery has increased in recent years.

|
Conditions which require surgical treatment of mitral valve repair include mitral valve prolapse, insufficiency and stenosis.
NYU Medical Center Mitral Valve Surgery in New York City, New Yok offers a minimally invasive approach for mitral valve surgery that provides patients with many benefits of robotic surgery for heart valve operations.

In addition to non-invasive robotic approaches, two NYU Medical Center Mitral Valve Surgery surgeons, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Stephen B. Colvin, M.D. and Director of Cardiac Surgical Research, Aubrey C. Galloway, M.D., recently announced a major advance in heart valve repair technology with the launch of the Colvin-Galloway Future(tm) Band, a new semi-rigid annuloplasty band used in the surgical repair of the heart's mitral valve.
Drs. Colvin and Galloway developed the new band in collaboration at NYU Medical Center Mitral Valve Clinic with Medtronic, the world's leading medical technology company, headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The Colvin-Galloway Future(tm) Band will be used in mitral valve repair surgery to restore, or "remodel," the leaking mitral valve opening to a more-normal shape. The innovative Colvin-Galloway band restores proper valve coaptation and improves valve function after repair.
Adam Pick is the author of The Patient’s Guide To Heart Valve Surgery (Revised Edition), a unique book which integrates the clinical facts of heart valve surgery with the personal experiences of an actual heart valve surgery patient. This special book address the challenges and opportunities faced by both patients and caregivers. Ultimately, this unique book was designed to minimize stress and enhance the patient's recovery.
