Dear Heart Friends. Thank you for adding me to your group. I am originally from Seattle and now live in Australia for the past 8 years. I am scheduled for a double (mitral and aortic) valve surgery on April 9. The aortic root needs to be enlarged with some sort of patch to accommodate the new valve size. I had Hodgkins Lymphoma at 12 (spleen removed) and thyroid cancer at 18 (thyroid removed). Apparently the valve stopped growing after radiation in 1971. Now that it’s down to the last seven days….ummm so many emotions, uncertainties, it’s pretty terrifying. I do have a great cardio surgeon that I completely trust, and a wonderful support system.
ADAM, YOUR BOOK IS INVALUABLE. I’ve recommended it to all the cardio doctors and staff I’ve come across here in Australia.
Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Sherry

Tammy Pilcher Hi Sherry, welcome to the group! It sounds like you've already been through a lot. I will keep you in my prayers for your surgery and recovery. I had my BAV replaced and also had an aortic root enlargement with a Dacron patch on Oct. 31, 2014. I'm doing great and it wasn't as bad as I anticipated. Best wishes!

Joan Davenport Hi Sherry,
Best of luck to you with your upcoming surgery. I think the most important thing is to have complete faith and trust in your surgeon....that's what kept me reasonably calm as I approached my surgery date. I'm wishing you a very full and speedy recover. I will keep you in my prayers. A good support team is a huge help too.\I was 73 y/o when I had my surgery for aortic valve replacement in 2012. I also had my spleen removed many years ago.
