5 days post-op, where did they go??? I lost the first 48 hrs, scaring my family. I'll try to give my recollections and informations I got from family.
Mar 6th - that OR is COLD!!! I have no further memory. I was put on bypass, repair done, heart restarted, taken off bypass. Oops, valve bleeding, put back on bypass, heart stopped, second ring placed, and a balloon placed through the sternum to keep pressure on.
In recovery they fought to keep blood pressure up, couldn't sedated me so of course I kept fighting the tube so they then restrained me. They couldn't extubate me because I wouldn't breathe. That stayed in til the next morning. What a wonderful freedom to have out. My greatest concern? What if I have to go under again??
Mar 7th - they're still working to get pressure up and kidneys need to start putting out. Have had Afib and SVT, trying to control that. Started taking pain med today. Chest tube removed OUCH!! A Lot of sleeping. Hate to see the helpless looks on families faces. Finally sent the home to sleep. Still in ICU

Sitting here with a glass of Chardonnay thinking...
Still need to do shower prep. Packing's done. Animals settled. I can't believe how fast we got to this time! 24hours from now recovery will be well underway WOW what a thought. Home again in less than a week! Back to work in 3 months. Looking forward to having energy again. By the time I finish rehab, I'll be in better shape than the past 5 years. Whoo Hoo!
For those also preparing for surgery, know that I'll be praying for you too and those in recovery, you're also in my prayers. Be back in a few days. Need to be up at 3am, leave at 4am to be at hospital by 6am...
