Well today is almost two weeks post op, and things are MUCH better!!! My Coumadin levels are good, the swelling (water retention) seems to be under control, and no cravings for exotic highly salty high fat caloric foods!!!!! Weight is going down, down, lower that pre op weight, and my lung capacity is so much better. I can actually lie down in my bed and sleep at night...

Well, today is the first post. Not sure where to start, but I guess the best place is a little about me. I am a 58 year old female, married, mother of three grown boys, and grandmother to four.
I was diagnosed with a heart murmur during a check up by my PCP, following his exam, and my presenting complaints of fatigue and some shortness of breath. That was August of 2013. I was diagnosed with aortic stenosis, hypertension, pre-diabetes, and anxiety (go figure) in November of 2013. Today I am sitting at this computer 9 days post op following an aortic valve replacement. My surgery was May 20th, and I came home from the hospital on May 26th...Memorial Day.
I want to put one note in here, and then I will stop for now....my mother had open heart surgery in the 80's for rheumatic heart disease. She underwent a mitral valve replacement. Over the next 6 months following her surgery I observed a vitality and a sense of newness in life that I had never observed in her. Sadly my mom passed 6 months to the date of her surgery, on Memorial Day.
