Hi Everyone,
Mom had a very good day today. She is doing and looking much better with each passing day.
She walked three times today and was able to walk three laps around her part of the floor during the last walk.
All of the various tubes are out and she is down to just a wireless heart monitor.
The nurses / doctors say she is doing great and may be able to be released early next week.
Mom says thank you for all the prayers and wishes.
Thanks
-Kyle

Mom was moved out of ICU today to her room :-) She is in a very nice private room with an additional couch / bed for me to sleep in. This building was newly constructed and opened in 2008 so everything is brand new and modern.
Her information is
Room 7239
Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Center
757 Westwood Plaza
Los Angeles, CA 90095-7403
(310) 267-7740
Her direct phone number is (310) 267-6320. She has asked that everyone hold off calling until tomorrow (Sat) as she is pretty tired right now.
She can receive flowers now - don\'t feel you have to (your thoughts and prayers are enough) but if you would like to - the gift shop at UCLA sells flowers and can deliver them to her room - the number to the gift shop is (310) 267-9522.
As I mentioned before, you can send cards or anything to my address - 1726 11th Street, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 - and I\'ll make sure she gets it.
In addition to being out of ICU, she is allowed to eat meals now (heart healthy of course).
Last night in the ICU was another tough night (not much sleep) but we\'re hopeful that tonight will be better now that she is out of ICU.

Mom made a lot of great progress today. She spent a good part of the day up in her chair and she walked a lap around the ICU. I told her she\'ll be ready for the treadmill tomorrow - ok not really but she laughed at it.
She is still in a fair bit of discomfort but she was back to watching fox news tonight so we know she\'s feeling at least a little better :-)
Dr. Shemin stopped in at the end of the day and said everything looked good. He and his team did an amazing job on the surgery - we were very fortunate to have him. The ICU team here at UCLA has done a great job as well.
Until tomorrow...

It was a long night for mom last night in ICU without much sleep due to a lot of testing they had to do and machines beeping (it often felt like you were in a pinball game).
She is awake and alert and sitting up in a chair right now so the good news is that everything still looks positive (albeit there is a lot of recovery still to go).
They are going to try to get her walking later today but she will probably still be ICU for another night.
Thank you again for all your thoughts and prayers.

Mom\'s heart surgery went well today and she is recovering in ICU now. She was awake and alert a little while ago and is sleeping now.
It was a long day (~8 hours in the Operating Room) but everything looks good at this point.
Dr. Shemin, the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at UCLA, successfully performed the mitral valve repair surgery and in addition performed a maze procedure (surgical ablation) to address her atrial fibrillation.
She is expected to be ICU for at least 24 hours and in the hospital for 5 - 7 days.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
Feel free to post in her guestbook and I will read to her.
