So it has been 5 years since my Mitral Valve Surgery at Mass General in Boston. Just wanted to check in on my anniversary. Doing well. A lot of improvement in the last year since my Doctor moved me to taking my Blood pressure medicine at night instead of the morning. Who knew? Anyway, I was still having some Migraines with Auras but have not had any lately. Hate those things. All in all, my annual electrocardiograms have shown no change. Still a slight murmur and ejection refraction amount has stayed the same. I guess that is a good thing. Still need to watch when I get up real quick. That's always fun. Still have a bit of numbness on my chest where they went in with the little robot hands. Scars have healed up really well. I can barley see them anymore. So....All is good. All is well. I'm still here. Stay well!

Phyllis Petersen You still have numbness? I guess I need to be patient. My incision where the robot went in split about a week after surgery and took months to fill in and the area has remained sore. The side area has some numb spots, which when they kick back in hurt at first. I guess it take awhile before I can "forget" the surgery.

OK, This is for Holly......Now, it is three years since my operation....Still alive and kicking. The healing is a continual process. I still have days that I feel pressure in my chest. Have been for my three year Echo and it is still moderate regurgitation. Has not elevated to severe as of yet so I am still out of the woods. Once again the Cardiologist said "see you next year". The scars are almost unnoticeable now. At least to me. The one under my arm is the only one you can see. The one down on my groin has actually caused a hernia, (because my job entails lifting heavy machinery) and I am due to have that fixed now. I am working every day at a new job which, strangely enough I started on my heart surgery anniversary date, and doing pretty much anything I want to do. No more Optical Migraine, flashing light things in my eyes anymore. That's good. No headaches like I used to get all the time before the surgery. Life is good.. My wife and I are going on a Cruise in May to Alaska. That will be a first for me. So, I hope everyone out there is doing well and recuperating in good fashion. God willing I will post a 4th year Journal entry next April.....God Bless, and good luck to anyone going in for surgery soon....

Nancy D Awesome progress!! Proves we are always a work in progress, with or without heart surgery!! Like Pat, I too have been migraine free, although the auras were many per day immediately post op, they have decreased as have the lightening bug lights I see from time to time. I know they too will be gone one day soon! Keep living and keep kicking!!! ;-)
