I now have a new On-X mechanical aortic valve to get used to along with several new medications.
Now if you don\'t mind I\'m going to take a knap!

Meredith Bray Hi Patrick! Do you still have any sternum or rib pain/discomfort/twinges? My surgery was 2 1/2 years ago, at age 42, and I still have a bit of soreness at the bottom of my breastbone, and very rarely when I lift something heavy out away from my body I think to myself, "Oooh! Wow!" and then it's gone. All things considered, I'm very happy with my On-X. it puts me to sleep at night!

My valve choice is the On-X valve. My surgeon thought it is a fine choice and I really like the design and the potential for reduced anticoagulant in the future.
Thanks again for the well wishes :)

Unfortunately, I developed a respiratory infection right after my pre-op testing and meeting. My primary put me on antibiotics and I quickly felt better, but the surgeon said it was a no go.
So I\'m re-scheduled for May 20th. Let\'s hope things go more smoothly!
I did have my cardiac cath on Monday though. All went smooth, no blockages :)
Thanks again for the well wishes, I\'m saving them all up ;)

I\'m leaning toward the On-X valve, but I might change my mind for a more time tested design.
I\'m getting more anxious by the day now. I need to keep busy.
Thanks to those who have written in my guest book, I would respond, but I can\'t figure out how!
Unless something changes my surgery will be at Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston on May 11 by Dr Bolman. I meet with him on Wed May 5 to discuss the surgery details.
