I will be going into the hospital tuesday the 15th of November for a heart cath, lab work then early next morning on the 16th, I will be having my surgery for aortic valve replacement. The replacement will be a Edwards Pericardial Valve (made from cow tissue). I am ready to do this...anxious, maybe....but not as scared as when I first found out. I have a wonderful surgeon here in Orlando and a hospital that is known for its thoracic success so I remain confident in my "team" of surgeons. I have also made arrangements with family and friends to help me through my recovery at home. In September this year I had my annual EKG which came back bad. My doctor sent me to a cardiologist who did a TEE scan and various other tests and I was told I needed a valve replacement at 64 years of age. I am waiting to meet with my surgeon and talk with him about my case. I am finding myself depressed, angry and scared....I found your blogs and it is really helpful to me....oh and I ordered the book. Knowledge is power and I need some kinda wonderful power right now.
