Good luck with your surgery. Who is your Mayo surgeon? I go to Mayo once a year to see a surgeon.

Hi Will,
My name is Nancy and I had the same diagnosis. I had the robotic surgery at UCLA about four weeks ago. I won't tell you it is a walk in the park, but the doctors and hospitals are so experienced and efficient, all you have to do is go to sleep. The nurses handle everything, and your family is kept informed. You wake-up many hours after surgery as the practice is to keep you sedated while removing the breathing tube and rewarding your body. You will talk to your family but really are asleep. Trust in the staff and you will do great.
Wishing you the best!

Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday, hopefully before you go into surgery so I can send you off with good thoughts. You look upbeat in the photos I've seen! That will make a huge difference in surgery and recovery.

Hi Will,
My name is Shari and I had my congentially defective mitral valve replaced two years and two weeks ago, via robotic assisted surgery. I cannot say enough about it. I went home with few restrictions just 3 days after surgery and was at my daughter's first dance competition less than two weeks later. I will caution you that minimally invasive does lull you in to a sense that you will be pain-free. I had a lot of discomfort, particularly when the first round of anti-inflamatory steroids ran out (they gave me more!). You also have a LOT of numbness through your chest and side, but that's more interesting for a woman, I suppose LOL But, other than that, my recovery was quick and not awful in the grand scheme of things. I have a bovine valve that I call "Bessie" and she and I have been riding rollercoasters and being a dance mom and generally just living life as normal. The greatest thrill of my entire life is to have a doctor or nurse put their stethoscope to my chest and tell me they do not hear a murmur. That is something I never had happen my first 44 years of life!

I wish you so much luck and all the best to your surgeon. It's a really weird experience with the tubes and wires and everything, but it will all happen quickly and you will be back to your new normal in nno time at all!

Hi Will. How great that you can have the less invasive robotic surgery done. It felt so good to read your story. I thought surely there are others in the community with heart disease! I had a mechanical valve replacement in September. Your welcome to read my Journal. All the best, Carole Charbonnier
