I have been thinking about her this morning. Though I just had my surgery 2 weeks ago, I can't imagine watching a little child go through this. I am so very sorry for what your daughter has to go through. My surgery is in April and I'm pretty scared. I can imagine the fright of the child. Regarding her strong reactions to going to sleep and injections, you might want to look into getting her some therapy quickly after this procedure. I am 64 and have had a lifetime of anxiety and fear resulting from a similar situation when I had my tonsils out as a child which has made my facing my heart surgery nearly impossible. I am currently finsihing up EMDR therapy which has helped me to get over this. This works very well for children as well as adults. Please do not ignore what she has gone through assuming she will "forget" about it. I assure you, she won't and would hate to think of her suffering and worrying about future medical the way I have. My best to you and your family.

Hi Sarah. My name is Harry Foley. My grandson, Charlie Nash Foley just turned 2 back in January. His father is Stuart Foley M.D.
Back in summer 2008, Stuart called me and told me Charlie Nash's ultra sound showed he was going to be born with only 2 chambers in his heart. In the fall of 2009, a very gifted surgeon by the name of Dr. Pedro del Nido did a major recontruction of little Charlie's heart. I think you could search the world over and not find a better surgeon than Dr. Del Nido. As with Charlie Nash and with God's watchful eye, Dr.Del Nido will do the very best.
And, as with Charlie, I'll be praying for you to have a speedy recovery.

Dear Sarah --

Your mom has been so amazing by keeping us all up to date on your situation and what you are going through. I want to tell you that you are so lucky to have two parents that love you more then life itself and i wold like to share something with...something your mom taught me when i was six when our dad, your grandpa, Robert, died from a sudden heart attack. Your mom taught me that life is filled with obstacles and heartaches....and getting through these times is what will make you a stronger, wiser and happier person. You may be hurting now, but you will be the strongest and bravest girl in your class....and you have your mom to thank for that...because i have my sister....your mom, to thank for that. I love you...you are my precious angel and cant wait to see you this weekend.

I also had my mitral valve replaced last thanksgiving and am on the road to recovery. Iam much older than Sarah (48) butr was equally scared or worse.
