Hi! I also had a coarctation of the aorta. It was repaired when I was 4 years old. My bicuspid aortic valve became too steno tic when I was 46 years old. I chose a Ross procedure which was done by Dr. Karl Lagerstrom in Albuquerque, NM. Today 11 years later, my echo is completely normal. I still take high blood pressure medication as I did before the surgery as well as a baby aspirin. Best of luck to you and your surgery. I know you will make the best decision!

Morgan,
The most important part of this procedure is picking the right surgeon for you. I just got my aortic valve and root replaced by Dr. Castro in Redwood City, CA. I had complete faith in him and his staff throughout the entire procedure. So good luck with your procedure.

Glad you are getting information Morgan!
I had surgery at CHW but of course our situations are completely different and I have many other underlying, complicating issues due to a genetic disorder + other Specialists involved who where involved in the pre/post OHS and repeat OHS.
Other than having had to repeat the entire Konno and AVR done in July (re-done Sept) last yr and admittedly being frustrated w the lack of communic. between CHW's Pain Mngmt Team and my own Pain Mngmt dr + never once talking to my Surgeon after either surgery (he talked to my parents) I have been happy w my actual Cardiologist and NP's care + their commun. w my Neurosurgeon (at UW-AFCH) and other relevant Specialists.

I definitely learned a few things if there where ever future OHS's (likely given other valve issues un-related to last yrs surgeries).
Anyways, best wishes!
Erica

Morgan,
I, too, live in the Milwaukee area and traveled for my valve surgery. I went to CCF for mitral and tricuspid repairs, and I just want you to know it was all very doable. I can guarantee you that the waiting is the worst part! Do your research and choose what and who you are most confident and comfortable with. Don't let the travel scare you. While it isn't convenient, it isn't bad either.
Godspeed......stay strong,

Morgan,

I just had Ross on 5/15 at age 50. It's too soon for me to tell you everything is great, but other than elevated heart rate, I am doing well. I read through a bunch of medical journals before coming to the decision. If you want me to send you those papers, leave an email & I will email them to you. I think you know well the advantages of Ross, but you will need to evaluate the risk for your particular case. Good luck.
Morgan Braddon-Walker  Thank you, Julia. I feel confident I understand the risks and benefits of the procedure. I just have ... Read more
