Hello JoAnne,

I am "Bobbie"-Roberta's oldest daughter. So are we 2nd cousins?? Roger D. sent me your link. We will keep you in thoughts and prayer during this time. They can do such great medical/surgical help these days.

As you most likely know, your aunts, my grandmother, Virginia and aunt Sybil both had valve problems I thought due to rheumatic fever as children. My 19 yr. son has a slight heart valve issue too, but no concerns at this point.

I know others who have had this surgery and are surprised at how much more energetic they feel afterward. It's amazing the difference it makes when the leak is "plugged".

Hi Joann- I'm so sorry that you need surgery, but you have chosen an EXCELLENT heart surgeon. John Kern is a very meticulous and fabulous cardiac surgeons- so you're in wonderful hands. Please let me know if I can do anything for you. Are you taking time off before surgery? I'm just wondering if it would help for me to schedule appt early before surgery. I'll be praying for you! Wow, how quick things are happening! Glad you found Adam's book and this site. Many of us have had our surgeries (mine was last month) and quite a few are in the holding pattern with dates as far out as June 21st. Speaking for myself and I believe the others too, you should get any questions answered that you might have. Pray the time goes by quickly for you.

Welcome to HVJ. Your wheels are spinnng really fast and sometimes that's good as there's not much time to dwell on what's happening. I had a mitral valve repair in Oct/09 and am doing fine. Hope you have some time to search through some of the journals here for some really good ideas about what's ahead. It might help you prepare. You are in my prayers.

You will be having surgery a few days before me. I am scheduled for surgery on May 10 at the Univ. of PA. So we will be recovering around the same time.
