Hi Jim,
I continue to be amazed at your progress, which encourages me for my surgery.

Can you mention whether this was a minimally invasive procedure and where the incision was made?

Best wishes for your continued speedy recovery.

Hey, Jim... sounds like another good day. I'm sure that you are glad to be disconnected and looking forward to getting home soon - ideally in time to watch some division championships from the comforts of your own man-chair. Well, it's 5:52 on Friday evening... do you hear a martini shaker rattling its mellifluous hymn from the nurses station? Cheers! Marty & Kim

Hey Jim,
So thrilled to hear of your stellar progress through surgery and recovery! I'm sure your photo is going up around the joint as Mass General's Customer of the Month, handily beating Tom Brady (on another floor today for foot surgery.) Our thoughts are with you through the next stages of recuperation.
Love to you and Susan both,
Lauren

Bananas in the morning? Afternoon nap? And wine on the order? Sounds like you never left home.... The real test will be when they bring you a martini at 6:00 tomorrow evening! We're so thrilled that you are doing so well - but that's why you elected to get this puppy knocked out when you are young and strong like bull. You will be back in the water in no time! Keep up the good work. We love you.... Marty & Kim

Jim - It is so good that you are doing so well and soon you will hoping to get home - just so you can get a really good night sleep. I think the nurses and MDs take vitals to give themselves something to do at night. Otherwise they have to raid the kitchen for ice cream ( which is what I did when working all nights)or actually do paper work. The vitals let them get some exercise. Really - it is so good you are doing well and are the star of the unit. We are all thinking about you and hoping for an on-going fast recovery. I also hope the pain is not too bad and that you become less uncomfortable each day. Get those feet dangling, sit on the chair, take a short walk down the corridor and this will soon all be a distant memory. We love you and are thinking of you - Love, Fran

I'm so happy that you are doing so well but I'm extremely vexed. Your surgery was so much more intense than mine but you can have wine with your coumadin and I can't - this does not seem fair!! I mean a hip vs a heart - what is my doctor thinking??

Sleep as much as they'll let you and eat when they put it in front of you!!

All the best for a speedy recovery,
Betsy (with Andy over my shoulder commenting on every word I type!)

Wine. Now that is the Best News! Do exactly what they tell you. You will soon be home and won't that be nice (especially cause you won't be shoveling snow!). Let us know if there is anything (except shoveling) we can do/bring once you are settled in.

BRAVO! You are the posterchild for valve surgery. You will be home and back in your own bed soon. I'll drink to your continued recovery when I get home from work tonight.
Looking forward to talking with you soon.

Susan and Jim,

Great news to start my day with here in GJ where snow is predicted today and we have an inversion. Isn't modern medicine amazing!!!
Don't look too good or they will try to send you home later today. Just know that I am thinking of you and wishing you well.
Love you,

Good Morning, Jim & Susan! We hope that you had a restful night (as much as one can with a jungle of tubes and wires connected to you anyway). We're thrilled to hear that all went well and that they were able to do the tune up rather than the overhaul...now, they'll drag you out of bed today and make you start running laps around the nurses station. Play through the pain, my brother, and don't forget to enjoy the scenery along the way to recovery. It's amazing how your perspective on life is clarified after an experience such as this... Can't wait to see you both soon. Love, Marty & Kim

Jim - Based upon Sue's update, it sounds like all went well today. I assume you are still in a comatose state but hopefully will be awake by tomorrow and ready to leap out of your bed to start your recovery. NOT! Really - I do hope you are not in much pain when you wake up and that you are able to feel better quickly. My prayers and thoughts go out to you both - with all my love, Fran
