Good luck next week. I just had my BAV replaced on May 2nd, and it actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I've been home for 6 days now, and the worst thing I can say is how tired I am because I havent been able to sleep for more than a few hours a night. But I feel way better than I thought I would for only being 11 days past surgery, and I'm going to my daughters soccer practices and starting to get back to normal.

I'm always here for yo7 even though miles away never far from my heart braddah! Sorry been busy taking care of tutu Dorie she went to hospital for Hypercalicemia but out and recovering well.

I know you will do fine, you have such resolve and Ohana support, my grandma had one of the first valve transplants at Stanford from doctors chum way way back in the 70's and it was a life saver for her she had a pig valve replace two valves. It allowed her to live well in to her 80's and this wasn't anything like the techniques and materials used today. Well see you up and visiting Hawaii soon!

I will follow you on this journal. this is such a great thing you do to share your journey.

I am from Canada and I just got my new mechanical valve less than 10 days ago. I'd like to suggest that you and I and families could maybe hike part of the Pacific Crest Trail (near Kennedy Meadows) to CELEBRATE our new mechanical valves and lives ... say summer of 2015 ??? how 'bout it?

Laxatives--- pain meds stop things up.
Heart pillow---it hurts like hell to cough. Keep your pillow in your lap at all times.
Spirometer---use the hell out of it. Hospital robe---opening goes in the back. Who knew? That was embarassing. The thing you need most----patience. It takes time to heal and it can be frustrating at times.

Keep smiling. Positive attitude goes a long ways. You're going to do fine.

Youre one of the strongest healthiest guys I know, both mentally and physically. I have no worries about you and my only hope for you is for a speedy recovery. If you need any reinforced arteries let me know; I've been reinforcing mine with butter and animal lard for years. They are strong like bull. Besides youre Greek and I'm Italian. I'm sure the parts are all inter-changable. Like Snap on Tools. Keep us posted. BTW....I know a fantasticly talented cardio nurse if you need a refferal. And she's easy on the eyes.

I am religious about getting blood work done and know the possibility that I may to have these issues. My point, Doctors now have incredible tools and knowledge about this.
