So wonderful to hear surgery was successful! And what a delight this morning to get The Star News and see an awesome color picture of Ryan on the front page from Sunday's kid's race. Wishing you many long happy years to watch your beautiful family grow up. (I'll save the photo for ya"ll).

Bill and Amy,
Wonderful news!! My prayers are now that your recovery goes smoothly and as planned. Sometime I will have to tell you my heart surgery story - I, too, had open heart surgery, when I was 7 years old! Amy, try to get as much rest as possible - hospitals can be difficult places to sleep! God Bless you both and your lovely family.

Hi Bill and Amy –

I am so glad that everything went so well for you today !!! Dr. Sabik is an amazing person with a fantastic “team” !!! You will be meeting all the folks in the step down unit as that will be your next stop along the recovery path at the Cleveland Clinic. Before you know it, you will be walking around the floor and going to get your water and ice at the end of the hall !!! Don’t miss the ice cream and popsicles in the freezer  Use your breathing thingy and do what all the nurses tell you and you will be home before you know it !!!!

Hey Bill! This is a great journal... nice for your friends and family and nice for you as well. It was great seeing you last week and you will be on our minds all this week. After that, we will likely forget you awhile and then remember you again. Then forget again. You probably won't be remembered consistently until you're back at work. You get the idea... Seriously, take care and we wish you all the best.

I had the exact same root problem, valvee was good, so I opted for valve sparing at the University of Iowa. You are going to be in far better hands. I am nine weeks post op and almost full speed. Feel great.

I found that the mental stresses leading up to the surgery were worse than the physical recovery. Think positive, focus on your family and pray if thats your thing. It became my thing and It helped me cope. Make sure to talk to your family, they worry as much as you do.

You are in the best hands focus on the positive and keep the faith.

I am battling cancer and undergoing chemo ----I just want you to know that a church family can and will get you through this "speed bump" in your life. Their support, concern and especially the prayers will lift your spirts and keep you believing. Good Luck and my prayer is with you now. Peggy Hewgley FUMC member.

Hi Bill!

I'm another of Dr. Sabik's patients . . . I had my aortic valve replaced in May 2010. He and his entire team are fabulous. I couldn't have asked for better care.

As Darlene said, feel free to ask any questions. This site is very good for preparing for surgery and what comes after.

Hi Bill !!!

I had my mitral valve repaired on Sept 2nd with Dr. Sabik --- he is a GREAT surgeon and you couldn't be at a better place !!! I also was from outside of the state of OH so I understand that as well :)

It has been 4 weeks and I am healing very well --- not as fast as I think that I should but that is just me and has nothing to do with the actual surgery. If you have any questions --- please drop me a line and I will be more than happy to try and answer them.

I am still trying to decide which way to go w/ vavle replacement type (mechanical vs biological). Alot to think about. We will get through this just fine. JH
