Well i went to see my consultant yesterday and he offered me a date for my valve replacement. . . . in 10 days time. Im really shocked that it is happening so quickly.
I met my surgeon Mr Pullan and his senior registrar Mr Muir, who are both really lovely people. I was talked through all the major points of the operation and was told about the recovery.
I was told that hopefully (all being well) i will only be in hospital 5-7 days, as my consultant prefers patients to recover in their home environment as he feels that they progress better with their family around them.
Mr Muir told me whilst i was there how important it is for me to have this operation as if i didnt i would not be here in 13 months time. I was more shocked and upset at this than the fact i had been given my op date.
I can not thank the staff enough at the pre-op clinic they were all amazing, what a fantastic team they have at Broadgreen. It is nice to know that im going to be in such capable hands when i have my op.
Will keep everyone updated in the run up to operation day.

I attended my appointment at the Broadgreen Heart and Chest Hospital this morning for my pre-op. It is a lovely hospital, very clean and calming and doesnt have that hospital type feel or smell to it that most do.
I had numerous tests done by the nurse; swabs for MRSA, 5 lots of bloods taken, ECG, chest x-ray, blood pressure checked, breathing tests, height & weight checked.
Im finding that its all getting quite real now, im really dreading going to see my consultant on Thursday because i know i will definiatly get my operation date, and I have already found that im starting to feel quite frightened at the thought of having to have such major surgery.
