Thank you to everyone for your support during Danny's recent open heart surgery. He is doing VERY well now but it was a long, hard journey. After developing that post op rash, they removed his old pic line as a possible infection source, and so had to poke him NUMEROUS times for all the blood draws due to running fevers and all their other blood information needs (thousands, it seemed). All of this and the strong antibiotics (they think) caused his kidney functions to decline GREATLY. Thankfully his numbers are back to normal, however, they have placed some restrictions on him for the next couple of months to allow them to heal. He LOVES to works out and is disappointed (well, angry) not to be able to have his protein shakes which are very hard on the kidneys. Keep in mind that he is only 20 (I am trying to). Also, when they re-inserted the pic line they punctured his lung and caused a pneumo thorax which they say is very rare. This caused him to stay an additional 3 days and be on oxygen (not a happy camper over that). They switched him to a home IV that was easier on the kidneys and much easier to administer damptomycin once daily. He went for his 7 week check up at the Cardiologist and the Echo looked good. What a relief. Long day at UofM though and he was upset when we went to Nephrology who put on the dietary restrictions. Just so grateful he is doing so good. It was a touch and go situation for a very long time. The hardest most torturous days of my and his life. Thank you again for all your kind words and quick responses to questions. My daughter is getting married in May and I gave her a Bridal Shower yesterday and have been crazy busy. I work at my Church 2 days a week, and I also babysit my 2 yr old grandson, Tyler. I hope everyone is healing well. I always keep all the people on here in my prayers. Thanks for yours. Mary

Unfortunately Danny's endocarditis developed an abscess and the only way to remove it from his heart valve was with surgery. The surgeons elected to replace the whole valve and clean out the area. He came through the surgery well, however, he developed an allergic reaction to the one of many drugs and broke out in a terrible rash. One week out he was still having fevers with chills/rigors but they have FINALLY left for the past 24 hours. Please keep him and our family in your prayers. It has been a long, painful, trying ordeal. Any one else develop a rash post surgery?

I just wanted to send a great big thank you to all of you who responded to my latest journal enty. You all made me feel much better. It is nice hearing about other people that have had this problem and came through with flying colors. I appreciate you taking the time to ease my anxiety. God bless you for your kindness and concern.
