Sue Sanchez Grela Antony my surgery is on the 1st, and staying busy and prayer keeps my mind calm. I'm taking care of things around my home that I will not be able to do during recovery. I will keep you in prayer for a peaceful wait! This site is amazing for learning, and focusing on our "heart brothers and sisters" journeys as well ❤ We are all in this together!

antony fink Thanks. I'm keeping busy at work so not really much time to think. .Think in actually trying to block the thoughts of the opp out. But in a funny sort of way I'm looking forward to getting back to my normal self. You will be a week before me Sue. Looking forward to read of you speedy recovery. Take care of yourself and don't overdo it in the few weeks left Just passing on what has been drilled down my throat a million times xxxx

Michael McMullen Hi Antony...you are beginning at a good place in this community, many experiences to draw from. I am entering my 3rd week post op, and I was active before surgery and pushing to my new temporary limits since home now over 1 week...I am up to 4xdaily walks...averaging total of 3 miles per day...so for me, I see this as good and working towards my pre-op routines of 4-5 days a week on elliptical and walking 18 holes of golf every Saturday. I am far from my routine, but I am encouraged I am at 3 miles a day. I am 59 years old. Good luck on your valve replacement and recovery.

Steven Dean Hey Antony, I am 31 and had my second AVR in August (first was repair this was replace with edwards bovine). Everyone is different but by Oct. 1 I was backpacking in the Cascades. When I got back from that trip I started biking to work again. A couple weeks later I returned to soccer. A couple weeks after that I returned to my full soccer schedule of 4 days a week (it is very recreational but that is more due to my skill, or lack thereof than my cardio). Just a week and a half ago I returned from Beaver Creek where my wife and I skied lifts open to lifts closed 3 days in a row. This summer my wife and I are hoping to do a 8-12 day backpacking trip in the alps. What I am saying is, there is no reason you can't return to normal.

Rita Savelis There is no reason that you won't be as active or more after having OHS on only one valve as long as you don't have other health problems.
Recovery takes time and is different for everyone.
Go easy on yourself and give yourself time and you should be fine.
It's okay to take a few months off from being super active.
Take care.
