About Me (In My Own Words)
On Thursday, February 11, 2016 I saw my primary care physician to check out what I thought might be side effects of some pretty potent rheumatoid arthritis medication I've been on the past three years. Before leaving his office he decided to listen to the heart and in doing so found a murmur. He scheduled me for an echocardiogram.
On February 26, after having the echo early that morning, I was told I would be called for a followup because they had "found something." Later that day I received a call from the primary care physician's office advising me that a "stat referral" had been made for me to see a cardiologist the following Monday, February 29th. It was at this appointment that I learned ("Officially learned," because over the weekend I had read the report from the echo online, googled as much as I could to understand what it was saying, and read as much as I could and watched video's on Adam's website and the American Heart Association's website to have a real sense of what was going on.) I had MVP and MR (severe regurgitation) and would need surgery to repair the mitral valve.
After consulting with several surgeons and talking with primary care physician and the cardiologist we've scheduled the repair surgery for Friday, April 29, 2016.
