About Me (In My Own Words)
First and foremost I am a wife and mother of two young children, ages 9 and 11. I teach yoga as well as substitute and volunteer in area schools. I've been a vegetarian for over 25 years. I am an amateur artist and have done a few murals as well as street chalk art. I am only 48 and many people say I seem to be one of the healthiest people they know. I am blessed with a large support group including friends and family from all over the country.
My mother had her mitral valve repaired a year and a half ago. She was doing fabulous until her Dr. took her off of Coumadin. Almost 2 weeks later, she suffered a stroke that left her speechless and unable to move her right side. Thanks to my sister she got to the hospital within an hour of the onset and they were able to release the clot. It could've been a lot worse had she been home with my father who is in his 80's as well and tends to sleep a lot. She is now in rehabilitation and I am going to see her this weekend. I know it will be extremely hard and yet I hope I can be of some help as my sisters and brothers have taken on a lot not only caring for her, but now my dad too. I am unable to fathom what she is going through as she has always been a very vibrant, fun loving, talkative person.
My family was all planning on taking turns coming here to help my family and I out while I recover, but with my mom's current situation, this may not be as easy as we thought. She was my father's primary caregiver and now my 2 sisters and my brother that live in Phoenix are all taking turns helping them out. Luckily my husband is a teacher and will be off of work the week I go for my surgery and a good chunk of time thereafter.
