About Me (In My Own Words)
I'm a 72 year old gramma of 13 . I was diagnosed with PSVT in the 90's & had 2 failed ablations, then learned I had heart failure.
In 2004 they discovered I had a MV leak & scheduled me for surgery but after a TEE , the docs decided to put in a Resynchronization device with fibrillator and I managed quite well.
But soon I became short of breath with any activity & then learned I had A-Fib & I was cardio-verted & placed on tikosyn.
This year i have had 2 more cardio-verts, the last one in June. But instead of 6 months of no A-fib as usual, it was back in 2 days. An echo revealed the MV leak was much worse & also now showed a Tricuspid leak.
My EP was focused on doing a Pulmonary Vein Isolation Ablation & said the leak was not bad enough yet for repair.
I asked for another opinion & it has taken a while to get in to see another cardiologist.
Meanwhile, I have been getting more & more out of breath with any exertion, even turning over in bed .I can barely walk 5 feet without struggling to breathe
. Finally, this past Tuesday the new EP I saw said I was NOT a candidate for ablation. The A-fib is due to the MV leak & the valve would need to be repaired. However, he wants to talk with my referring cardiologist & another cardiologist in their group and discuss a possible Maze procedure for the A-Fib along with the repair
. He wants to schedule me for a stress treadmill which he knows I will fail . Then he said come back in a month! So I am on hold. my kids want me to go to the surgeon myself or contact Mayo clinic or Cleveland Clinic.
I'm not sure what to do.... but the journey to repair or replacement has begun.... and here I am.... unsure of what path to follow.
