About Me (In My Own Words)
Hi all, 56 year old fit male.
Well, 25 days to surgery at Mayo. Spent Oct. 22nd & 23rd at Mayo for another Eco to verify what the Doctors in Duluth Mn. already stated, that I have Aortic stenosis, opening .76cm. And also need one by-pass. Kind of glad for the by-pass as my AFLAC specified envent insurance doesn't cover valves, only by-passes.
Back in 1971 I had Hodgkins, so they believe the valve is damaged from radiation. This is why the doctors in Duluth sent me to Mayo, as radiation damaged surgery can be somewhat more complicated.
I have no symptoms. no chest pain, no swelling of the ankles, no dizzness, no shortness of breath while climbing stairs. I work facility maintenance and walk anywhere from 2 to 3 miles a day with no problem. Only symptom is the heart murmur which lead to all this during my yearly physical.
I'am somewhat bothered about being 3 weeks out and may call my surgeons office and check and see if we should bump up the date or stick with it. The "sudden death" thing he mentioned with radiation damaged valves was a bit unsettling. Also it seems thar they do not know the exstent of the radiation damage until they open you up. I'am 38 years post radiation with no symptoms other than the murmur, so hoping for not much damage.
Anyway, countdown begins. I will keep up dating on any changes and right on through my surgery. "nurse bring me a laptop please"....LOL
