All my life I was told I had a heart murmur and then about 9 years ago I was told the murmur sounded "different" - time to get it checked out. After a few tests it was determined that I have a bi-cuspid Aortic Valve and was born with this "condition." For the past 9 years I have been monitored by an excellent cardiologist, knowing that one day I would need surgery to replace my valve. I always thought that "one day" would be a long time from now - when I was "old" NOT NOW in my 40's with 2 sons, ages 11 and 4 and so much to still do in life. But after a very scary incident in November, the docs have decided the surgery can't wait. So now it's time - valve replacement. So much information to digest and so many questions. And.. I am scared.
