About Me (In My Own Words)
Had Aortic valve replacement (bovine) March 2009. Now have congestive heart failure. Still can't work for more than an hour at a time.
But, I'm alive. :)
3-Years ago.
Well, I suppose I should put something here. I just read a post from someone going through the process this week. She did a lot of preparation and planning ahead of time. That would have been interesting. I didn't do it that way.
I did know that I was going to have to have a valve replacement for many many years. But, I just kept on keeping on. I was pretty active up till the last day. We raised 7 children and homeschooled them all. I have done a lot of physical labor from plucking Ostriches to Logging. And, I was a Volunteer Firefighter for more than 30 years. The last 7 years was spent as a wildland firefighter. That was by far the most taxing and strenous. Then it all caught up with me.
I was out working (pkg delivery service) and started having 'fainting' spells. So, told the wife she would have to drive for a while. We finished our deliveries and she wanted to know if we needed to go in to the E-room. The chest pains and weakness were increasing so, I finally gave in.
Went in and I asked if they had someone that would tell me I wasn't having a heart attack. LOL Boy did that get their attention. And, they never found anyone to say that.
Went in Sunday, few tests Monday and surgery. Went home that Friday with a new heart valve! What a week.
That was three years ago.
