About Me (In My Own Words)
I'm 73 and recently diagnosed with mitral valve regurg. I have appt 2/1 with Cardiologist but not yet referred to thoracic surgeon so am still up in the air about how good or bad my situation actually is or what's recommended. The waiting for the 'other shoe to drop' has been excruciating. I had stroke on 11/11/09 and don't have any serious residual effects from it but Cardio dr. has tried to allow me as long a stretch of time ss possible (fom date of stroke to surgery). I'm taking lots of drugs. Tough since I've never been much of a 'pill popper'. Max for me has been ibuprofen dealing with my fibromyalgia discomfort. Have some side effects of meds like dry cough (no longer on Lisinopril) and am losing some hair (no idea what's causing that). Still fighting the 'stop smoking' battle. I've had the TEE procedure, cardiac cath & angiogram and have to say the anticipation was far worse than the actual tests. We've had some problems getting stabilized on coumadin levels but seems like that's getting better and no longer have 3x blood tests a week.
Hard to not have a pity party when there are so few answers forthcoming on what actually ails me and ultimate prognosis.
More to come after Monday, when I hope to have things cleared up somewhat!
I'm starting this journal on 2/1 and hope daughter, Wendi, will be able to keep it up as I progress along this path. Have to locate a pix to post!
