Kim's Heart Valve Journal

My husband Frank is scheduled to have valve replacement surgery on March 5th and I am his wife and writing for some support in this process. Frank has been closely watching his bi-cuspid valve for 18 years now and the last echo showed was now time to replace. He is not symptomatic and appears to be in good health. Franks catherization is scheduled for March 4th with surgery the following day. We have not yet met with the surgeon and are now facing the decision as to what valve to choose. Frank being 56 years young has posed a problem with the tissue valve. We however do not like the life long cumadin that goes hand with the mechanical valve.. urghhhh such a hard decision for us both. talking with the surgeon next week will ease some of those fears. Any input would be so appreciated. I am trying to keep my emotions in check.. but ohhhh boy its difficult.
