About Me (In My Own Words)
In 2006 I was found to have a bicuspid aortic valve and aortic stenosis. Valve replacement surgery is in my future, and in 2009 my annual echo showed a marked decrease in the valve area. My cardiologist and surgeon recommended surgery and, against my better judgment, I did not request further testing to confirm the diagnosis. So I was admitted to Univ. of PA Hospital on Sept. 14, 2009. The surgeon did order a catheterization to examine my aortic coarctation. The cardiologist performing the cath procedure found that my valve area had in fact NOT decreased as much as the echo showed, so after several hectic meetings that afternoon, I was discharged. I'm still getting over the whole experience and my confidence in my cardiologist and surgeon is shaken.
