About Me (In My Own Words)
My name is Cynthia Garza, and I am 39 years old. I had an aortic valve replacement in 2000. I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve and began having complications in my early 20s. Two weeks ago, I had an annual check up which included an echocardiogram. The echo indicated that the pressure gradient had gone up dramatically. My cardiologist referred me to my surgeon immediately. The surgeon has suggested I have another procedure done to more accurately assess the pressure gradient. He had referred me to another specialist in Houston. After consulting with both doctors, we have scheduled an appointment to consult with a surgeon at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He has recommended I have a TEE done and a possible heart catheterization the next day. That will be dependant on the results of the TEE. So, I am awaiting that appointment to see if I am a candidate for valve replacement surgery again.
